Schatz is a good one, reckon I'd slot him straight into the blindside, get a bit of balance in the pack.
DPG seems to just be shifting some extra cover from wing to center.

Schatz at 6 and Mafi at 8 probably means Timani stays in the 2nd row.

Injury cover guys have to go as soon as the player they're replacing returns though don't they?

Shatz is great in the lineout and defends like a demon but the coaches up here could get nothing out of him in attack. Hope your guys have more luck.

Schatz @ 6 for his set piece work and workrate is a good plan, but he has only brought in now for temporary injury cover, would he so easily jump ahead of Leota and Fox? (I think so but would be rough on them)

Schatz was starting Super Rugby last year and has started in successful teams. He's also got a very different 'skill profile' to any of our other back rowers (unless Rob learns to jump).

Basically, great signing. Probably means LT to lock.

Hey I'd pick him at 6 now. Get a proper balance backrow with Schatz, Mafi and Reid.

Put Timani in with a classic lineout lock like Day, and you have 2 specialist lineout men, 2 backup jumpers classic big men, and a breakdown man.

If you deem Day as a starter, you'd just shift LT to 8 and start Jefferies.

The only reason to start LT as a lock is because we don't have many good ones.

jeffries is out for a while isnt he? and whats wrong with day? a capped irish international vs jeffries, a kid who has had 1 ok NRC..

That's like saying Schatz should be ahead of Fainga'a and Reid in the Rebels backrow because he's a capped Wallaby.

It's fairly meaningless.

would be less meaningless if they played the same position. As Amirite said, Schatz has a very different skill profile to other 6 and 8 (leota & fox)

Just saying jury is still out on Jeffries. 1 Solid NRC season with a few injury riddled seasons doesn't automatically overrule 250 full professional games with recent 2015 test caps (not long ago highlander).

I hope Jeffries does well, he's a queenslander! Just hasn't got the runs yet to be immediately demanding a starting spot before the season has started....unless of course at training he is just destroying it then all credit to him.

Have you watched Day play lately? In the Japanese league, he hasn't impressed. I'm speaking about 2017 Day, I think you're rating him on his past performances.

That being said, have you ever seen him play? Because I'm 90% sure it was for Wales, not Ireland.

You're quite confrontational around the forums today.

Sorry about the Irish thing, that mistake has already been acknowledged but nothing a google can't solve.

Nothing wrong with devils advocate to get the juices flowing, that's why I'm not criticising you, just putting up alternatives with a small level of grounding, and would appreciate the same. On the same note, no one has seen 2017 Jeffries play either. This is all guess work and theory

I absolutely agree that Schatz is a great option as you said, but I think that having 2 inexperienced 2nd rowers in jeffries and timani, with only a recent introduction in schatz as a known lineout entity, could lead to some setpiece and lineout woes. I like jeffries, but I see him as more of a Douglas then Simmons (aggressive country lad v set piece)

Shatz is a very good Super player. Has a huge workload but unfortunately for Jake his attack has always been a bit wanting and that is why his limited Wallaby selection was pretty fortunate (for him)

Great clubman.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but I don't have high hopes for Day.

Mind you, I'm basing this on one game that I saw him play for Verblitz last October; it could have been just a bad day (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk).

He came on at 60 mins (starting from the bench is no big deal, in the Top League only three foreigners are allowed on the field at once), his game included a poor knock on from a good pass, a terrible missed tackle that led to a try 40m downfield, no line out takes and a couple of hit ups in the last few minutes.

He looked slow and, as amirite said, unimpressive.
