Bloody oath. When I say shame, I mean it's a shame for the Rebels. It would be great to trot the guy out in the NRC and get a good sense of his strengths and weaknesses and get him familiar with the Rebels set up. With Pyle gone (and Thomson too?) and Jones with the Wallabies, it'd be good to have someone with Caderyn Neville in your second row.

Jefferies has been signed to the full squad next year and could use the blooding.

He missed 2 weeks ago with an injury and may not have played last Saturday either

Lalakai Foketi (Rebels) signs for french club Bayonne.

according to Jauzy on Aussie Player Exodus thread.
Geez the off field mob at Parkville are doing well aren't they. Perhaps Ellison is staying.

Is this the guy that's off with the Under 20's? Hasn't really stuck around to make a go of it, has he?

He is, upgraded to full squad contract next season with Cummins taking his EPS spot.

I wonder why they haven't given Jeffries a run yet.

We need our best team on the park as we chase that top 2 spot on the ladder and a home final during the last few rounds.

This is not the time to be blooding youngsters for next season!

If that's true he should be dropped from the U20's squad. There's no reason to be focusing development $ and game time on a deserter.

Pretty harsh.

I don't think it's something to be concerned about regarding him leaving personally, but Tex, you'll look like a goose with that comment if he does a Tala Grey and comes back in 2 years.

Maybe, but I'm feeling a bit raw about the Rebels' fortunes at present and having another of our promising youngsters ship offshore is yet another harsh blow to the figs.

tala grey originally went to the ACT when there was an MOU between the VRU and the ACTRU regarding player development. at the time there was serious talk of the Brumbies playing a number of games in Melbourne. Grey then played in Sydney after being cut from the Brums academy (2 shoulder recons in as many years), before going to Biaritz.
its very disappointing the Foketi is leaving (if true) given that the Rebels have no doubt put a lot of time and effort into him. Perrhaps he is actually not wanted in the contracted squad next year

Tex, that's a little provocative and uncalled for.

If we applied that moniker to every player that changes clubs, we would have to find a new definition for the word.

Have you ever changed jobs? Just asking.

And by opting for a lesser quality player and impacting the team's performance, I'm not sure how anybody wins.

Foketi wouldn't have started in 2015, and probably not in 2016 either.

Providing the French do the right thing for him and give him game time, he'll be back and pursuing a Super Rugby starting spot before he's even 23.

Don't stress.

He's a signing the Rebels should pursue.

We need a genuine number 6, I've never seen a team consistently perform with this 2 openside model.

Between McMahon, Reid, Fainga'a, Fugistaller, Higginbotham and Jones I think another potential loose forward is the last thing the Rebels need. A genuine Super Rugby standard lock so they don't need Jones to play lock is what they need. Perhaps 2 to replace the departing Pyle also.

Edit: Forgot Lopeti Timani.

Uncalled for? By whose reckoning?

If true, then good luck to the kid. He's no doubt been offered a far more generous salary than what we offered. It stinks when your club starts to look like a convenient stepping stool for people looking for development.

Run with your workplace analogy - you hire a young gun out of university and start to mould him and form him as a professional, smooth out the rough edges and develop his confidence. He starts to shine a bit and attracts the attention of the firm down the road. Less than one year into his contract he buggers off for the juicier wage.

Anyone who is sanguine about young leaders exiting the club needs an enema.

Anyway - deep breaths.

The club was saying on FB that they'll have next year's roster finalised in the coming month. Hopefully there's a few contract extensions and a solid inside back squirrelled away in there.

It's a two way street though.

Every team/employer also hires people who have been developed elsewhere.
