Australian rugby is the best spot currently, depth wise, that it has been in my life time. All 5 Super Rugby squads seem to be in a really good spot.

hmmm im not quite so sure Tranquility, i still think we only have the depth for 4 teams...

All the teams have competitive starting XV's, but its the overall depth which will win premierships in the long run.

I'm getting tingles down my arms (and I'm pretty sure its not a heart attack) but wow has our scrum improved! From being just the other 8 guys for teams to push around, and now by the looks of it, we have 8 guys that will hurt you if given the chance.
I seriously didn't think I'd would be saying it this season, but could our forward pack actually be our strength this season?

It helps that we don't have a deckchair wearing number 1.

so a few observations about last night.
defence certainly has improved can't remember too many (?any) one on one missed tackles and some of the offensive tackling lead to turnovers.
still getting a bit monstered at the breakdown on occasions
the set piece, and in particular the scrums very solid, although as in past years we lost 3 crucial lineouts, i think pat leafa's throwing needs work.
a few poor passes under pressure.
burgess / hegarty combination still not that fluid.
we kicked poorly a couple of times turning over possession, the first one leading to the canes opening try.
ellison in his brief cameo looked right at home and threw a couple of beautiful passes
we won because we took our shots at goal
a better looking team than in the past years but still work to be done

next week against the reds will be the real comparison i think

edit, oh and we gave away a shitload of penalties at the breakdown and in defence, not certain it was us or the ref at fault

An Article today from foxsports, about Haru Tatekawa, mentioned the rebels signing another japanese player.

any truth to this?

"More Australian clubs now are investigating the option of adding a Japanese player to their roster, and the Rebels are set to sign a second Cherry Blossoms player this week."

Has been talk of a another international signing for a few weeks now, but nothing concrete. We also have space for another foreign development player, which I'm assuming a new Japanese signing would fall under.

Still think we need an established hooker on short-term to cover Tom Sexton. Debate rages on here as to what positions we need to fill.

The final of Japan's Top League was postponed yesterday due to the weather. It will be played tomorrow instead, tomorrow is a public holiday in Japan. Will probably mean that Shota won't be here for a few more days.

I mentioned on here a little while ago that I thought Kosei Ono might be a good choice for us at Fly-Half. He will also be playing in that game (for Suntory). If he is the international signing we have been hearing about then this would explain why there's been no announcement yet.

Ono grew up in NZ, finished high school there and moved back to Japan to try and get into their national team.
