Since this is a Rebels thread, I'd like to ask some Rebels questions...
In what cities did Rebels players play in Aug/Sep last year?
... ???
Hmmmm, and you could possibly add a couple more as well now.

They all do it anyway for the Shute Shield and the best part is we'll see the non-match day Rebels playing finals in the Dewar Shield rather than going to Sydney to stake a claim for a Super Rugby spot next season. If I'm a player living in Melbourne and paying rent in Melbourne, etc. I'm probably not going to be much of a fan of it.
Maybe if the NRC team wants them they fix up the bill hire an apartment throw in the 4 - 5 rings ins. Can't cost too much.. if you want the talent.

Many of the Rebels are from Sydney and I'm sure a month or two of sleeping on a fold out bed in a parent or mate's house is a small sacrifice to make considering it will be a massive win for the development of local Victorian rugby.
The players get a working holiday back home, the Rebels get a chance to actually start filtering Victorians into the EPS on more than just training/park rugby form. Win-win.

yeah rugby WA can give back some of the 200k they get from the ARU because they get so much...Or Rebs / Force reimburse part of their ARU Funding they receive that will flow down and no doubt assist them field an NRC team. Sorry, that was being a smart arse - but seriously all parties need to be on board and we should all be rooting for strong teams playing quality rugby.
I like the idea of Force and Rebs getting to retain and field their starting 15 and the bench / training squad being development. That team will more than holds its own.
Good joke, but yeah, we do need to spread the playing wealth.Or Rebs / Force reimburse part of their ARU Funding they receive that will flow down and no doubt assist them field an NRC team. I don't even agree with Melbourne and Perth fielding full-strength Super First XVs in this NRC comp. That's not what it's about. This new 3rd-tier is supposed to bridge the gap between Club and Super rugby, and develop the good emerging players by mixing them with-and-against good existing super players.I like the idea of Force and Rebs getting to retain and field their starting 15 and the bench / training squad being development. With 5 Super squads and (it looks like) a proposed 10 team ARC, each 3rd-tier side should be roughly half-strength Super First XVs, with bench/squad/club players stepping up to fill the breach. On the supply side, roughly guesstimating for the first year, Brumbies/Reds/Tahs would have 6-10 players each taken out out of the mix (in the Wallabies and/or Team Rehab), and the Rebels/Force maybe 3-5.
Rebels: the Melbourne ARC club would get 18 players from the Rebels (others with Shute Shute links go north) with the rest of the Melbourne club made up of local Academy/club players.
Force: - similar to the above - the Perth side would get 18 players from the Force (others going on an east-coast rugby vacation) with the rest of the squad made up of local Academy/Perth club players.
Brumbies: the Canberra club would get 18 players from the Brumbies (selected others going on a 3 hour drive) and the rest of the squad made up of local Academy/Perth club players.
Reds: - Qld will be fairly self-contained - the Brisbane/Gold Coast sides would get around 10 players each from the Reds (roughly even split) and most of the rest from Reds College/Qld Clubs.
Waratahs: - will be scattered to the winds - the 4xSydney/1xCountry sides would get something like 5 players each from the Tahs. The rest of those squads will be made up of inter-state Super players and NSW Academy/local club players.
Maybe I should re-post on another thread, and we can carry on there.Pretty much agree on most of your fronts, my concern with NSW though;
It started out here as an "effect on the Melbourne Rebels" question, which was fair enough, but we should probably let the Rebels have their thread back.
So what is everyone expecting from tonight's game?
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing if our forwards continue their good form from last weekend.
And can someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but did I hear correctly that we made 16 turnovers against the Tahs? If so, more of that please!

[*]For the Rebels and the Force a couple are foreigners and will probably want to go back home for family or even local NPC comps. I doubt the ARU can hold these guys to anything.

Well the development players can't leave for a start or we will have another speight like situation.I don't think any player who is contracted to an Australian Super Rugby team should be allowed to go play a competition in another country when this comp is running..
