There hasn't been too much wrong with the Rebels attack lately, it's the defence. 3 tries against the Kings & Crusaders and 5 against the Chiefs. But 30 points conceded each time.

although the kurtley saga has been locked on the other thread, the article in this mornings age/smh from georgina robinson raises a very important question. if kurtley was with rebel team mates (?JOC (James O'Connor)) at the storm game, WTF were they doing NOT looking after their mate. this presupposes they knew of the ban on alcohol, but even for the dimmest individual you would think that would be obvious. this is much more an indictment on his mates than KB (Kurtley Beale) i think.

The Daily Telegraph understands Beale and James O'Connor attended the Melbourne Storm-Raiders NRL game at AAMI Park and later entered a hotel where other Rebels players were already situated. It is believed no one saw Beale consuming alcohol but senior - and sober - Rebels players suspected he may have been drinking. They spoke with the Wallaby and subsequently remained with him until the night ended at midnight.
When quizzed the next day, Beale admitted to Melbourne boss Rob Clarke he drank.

They're not his baby sitters. By all reports the only bad thing that happened was he had a beer.

Have you tried to convince a grown man not to do something he wants to do?

My take: he's not on the sobriety bandwagon, he's not an alcoholic - he's a 24 year old with a troubled relationship with booze.

This isn't something for anyone but him to deal with and fix.

Some posters here have implicitly likened him breaking his agreement as tantamount to an alcohol-addicted person going on a bender. By all reports the guy had a schooner at the Storm game.

He's chosen to drink in full knowledge of his agreement, and done so with a degree of restraint. People have also glossed over him missing a counselling appointment.

Disrespect, pure and simple.

That's probably fair enough.

The reality is if he did what he did with no priors nobody would bat an eyelid, so it's not that bad.

BUT he did it deliberately disobeying conditions agreed upon by many parties looking after his and their interests.

So it's stupid. Not malicious, but stupid.

Harsh. He was badly exposed out wide because Inman kept charging in to cover for Mitchell, who he clearly doesn't trust. Still, Vuna's one-on-one defence wasn't good enough. Not sure I'd trust him at 12. How about something like this for next week?

cant see that either beale or JOC (James O'Connor) will be available. would suspect that JOC (James O'Connor) has either bruised or fractured sternum (Xray report notwithstanding) which is a couple of weeks at least.
the question of beale is intriguing. do you play him because the psych help says that is in his best longterm interest or do you continue to leave him out till he comprehends the commitment he has to make to his team mates. bloody difficult decision

we will need a very strong defensive effort from whatever our centres pairing is, so if sidey is available i would pick him - he was doing well in his past few games.

stormers look to be missing possibly 3 key forwards.

Indeed, quite disrespectful......... in fact, I think he knows that the ARU won't come down too hard on him..........

Just about any other player would've had their contract torn up by the ARU, but instead they've gone well out of their way to make him available for the Lions' series due to his profile........

And after one week.......... ONE week......... he breaks the conditions of his return.........

I'm sure we'll see him back on the field this week.........

i like that call. he is a bigger body as well (than mitchell) and looks like he can tackle well.

He's got great footwork and consistently beats his opposite number. Anyone know what his passing game is like? Mitchell and Sidey have thrown some absolute fluff in the last few rounds.

JOC (James O'Connor) out for 1 - 2 weeks. Brainstorm session for who can/should fill 10 for the Stormers match. KB (Kurtley Beale) seems an obvious choice, provided he is ready to come back into the team. There would be others I guess who could also fill the role; Has Woodward any form up closer? English? Bryce for his maiden run-on start? Others?

Mitchel is a hard worked but has a serious case of plant foot (he plants his feet in D).

Forwards can get away with it at times but backs sure as hell can't.

yes he has been particularly susceptible to it lately. i think mitchell suffers from lack of game time. he is typically a better player the longer he plays, but without game time his form drops off pretty quick.

it will be heggarty, roberts (god please no) or beale. i dont think woodward will move that close. beale not injured so i expect him to be back. hill needs him.
