I suspect if Rebels and Force were to make a case for easing up the foreign player restrictions the ARU will play ball; it adds a dimension of interest to the teams, and enables us to maintain 5 teams at some kind of standard. And vitally it is one of the few things they can do that doesn't involve an expense.

but we hardly have any foreign frecuits anymore, Woodward and Fuglistaler can qualify for Australia (not 100% on fug).

Whilst I understand what you are saying, I can hear the cries of favoritism ringing out from Moore Park and Ballymore. It's good to see that Bill Puliver considers that Melbourne/Force needs extra help being that we live in AFL mad cities. My preference would be to maintain some balance between international recruits and growing home-grown Victorian talent. It was great seeing Lloyd run around last year in the Rebels gear and I can't wait to see more Victorians play for the Rebels. Recruitment concession will only remain useful until we get a talent tool that can sustain five super teams. Hopefully we are heading in the right direction, but other sports (especially AFL and League) will always be a problem.

Robinson is interesting, clearly looking to get back into a NZ S15 side I guess. Could he not have signed for HB and still play at the Rebels? ITM is later in the year.

We had better sign Saffy, he has given us plenty in A and D since returning.

Yes, he can play at the Rebs and HB but as a developed player there's little advantage in doing so other than wanting to out of interest (it's in the general Wellington area where he's from).

I don't imagine he'd need to play ITM to play Super Rugby in NZ. There's plenty of footage of him playing Super Rugby over the last 3 years, what's a spell in the ITM going to do?

I think it is great that Ged is going to play ITM, and Max Lahiff. Obviously completely different reasons for doing so. I think Ged wants to prove to an NZ S15 team that he is good enough to be the starting hooker for them, and he certainly hasn't given up on the idea of playing for the All Blacks. FWIW, I think that Canterbury would be a great fit for him, as Corey Flynn is getting a bit long in the tooth and they lost Quentin Macdonald to Auckland as their best reserve hooker this season...

Ged Robinson's gone for good. Trying to get a NZ Super Rugby contract via ITM with Hawkes Bay. There's been no interest to date. I'd think that with HB in the Hurricanes catchment area he'd be keen on returning to them.

The Canes have been in some strife lately with their hookers due to injury, having to scour the club ranks for players to sit on the bench. Apart from Dane Coles, their backup is Motu Ma'atu and Ash Dixon - both bit part Super Rugby players.

Seems to me he's good enough...

KB (Kurtley Beale) has been stood down again for this weekend.

"Kurtley has breached behavioural guidelines that were set by the ARU, Rebels, and RUPA, which were agreed to in full by Kurtley"

He has to be gone now.

I'll wait for details about the infringement but he's got to be the biggest goose going around.

The path of a successful professional athlete is littered with the wisps of past players who couldn't see the forest through the trees. Privileged young men pissing away a legacy and a future for their families.

Such a shame.

Massively disappointing.

Why can't the bloke get it right? He makes a fantastic comeback and then pisses it up against the wall.

Beale returned to the field with aplomb when he came on as a second-half substitute in the 39-33 loss to the Chiefs last Friday, scoring one try and sparking the Rebels comeback that almost snatched an unlikely win. The performance had him very much again in the sights of the Wallaby selectors for next month’s much-anticipated series against the British and Irish Lions.

But Beale has since admitted to drinking after the game - breaking the conditions of his return to the playing field.

DC was sacked for less, how much is this guy going to do before he gets the boot.

yes his great when his on the field, but he is turning into the worst 2 year investment in Rugby.

He'd be a near pick up as your 2nd or 3rd hooker. Sounds like it's buyers prerogative too, so you might get him for relatively little coin.

I wouldn't mind seeing Vuna play 12 for us now that he's a more complete player.

Remember when that was going to be a thing?
I'd like to see our wings start scoring some trys, actually our whole backline needs to step up.

3 Joint highest try scorers at the moment, one from each line of the forwards.
