As it seems that there will be no video/TV coverage of the trial, can someone from the Rebels who is going over do a full LG-type report on BOTH teams please?

The biggest surprise for me last year was Luke Jones, who particularly impressed during the home game vs Tahs. His ability to inject himself effectively into a large amount of play really stood out for me, very much in a way I would like our locks to play at Wallabies level. Unfortunately injury stopped him from getting to really stamp his mark on the season. With all the attention on Neville and Pyle my concern is that he won't get much gametime when in my eyes he has as much, if not more, ability.

Jones should get a decent run in the trials, with Higgers out.

They always film the trials, for analysis and I'm sure they'll put up a highlights package.

If Luke Jones gets pigeon-holded as a lock watch his career go the way of Dean Mumm's.

Whilst I agree to much shouldn't be read into the trial selections, I would say that Beale and JOC (James O'Connor) whilst being able to be 'playmakers' they can also be finishers and JOC (James O'Connor) in partcular has shown at international level that he can take the ball over the advantage line as a powerful ball runner.

Young Melbourne Rebels fullback James Woodward has been ruled out for six weeks after injuring a tendon in his finger at Super Rugby pre-season training.

The 22-year-old Woodward is facing six weeks on the sidelines, with coach Damien Hill confident he would be fit to return for round four of the Super Rugby season in early March.

The former New Zealand Under-20 representative said on Twitter that he would require an operation this week.

In a way it is a pity for Luke that Delve decided to stay and the Rebs picked up Higginbotham as well.

I always thought he would have trouble as a senior player in the sense that it would be hard to establish his position identity.

When I first saw him as a lock in the Oz Schools tournament, in 2008 for NSW Schools (with another player from the St. Pius 1st XV I had never seen before, Michael Hooper), it looked like he wouldn't be big enough in height or weight to be a regular senior lock except at only the club level.

The next year confirmed that when he was in Yr.12: he hadn't grown a lot.

There are worse things than being a Dean Mumm type though. He can make his mark at the Rebels as a player who can 6, 8 or lock so he is in a matchday 23 every week and from there the Wobs can employ him in the same vein.

He is only 21 now so playing every week as a forward in Super Rugby is not too bad. Eventually he should specialise and that should probably be at 6 to start with - as Keiran Read did - then move onto no.8, like KR. It's a more difficult position to play and needs experience.

Interesting that they've put JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 first. Perhaps that is the outcome of him spending the full pre-season with the team and filling that role during that time.

Talking points at this stage of the season for mine:
  • I wouldn't mind seeing Neville shifted to 6 late in the game, or even starting there against the Saffa sides. Good choice to trail it.
  • Woodward for 6 weeks sucks but a finger injury is reasonably manageable.
  • I still think Delve at 7 is a viable option for reasons previously discussed, at least as a late game option.
  • Neither Neville or Pyle are of the "TH" lock mould. I hope Thompson or King get good, it'd make us better balanced (at least for a portion of the game).

Neville had a couple of games, or part of games in 6 at Manly last year and went alright, I had just thought it will be Neville 5, and Jones 6.
Understand he is still EPS but after last season and being light on in 7's I thought Jordy Ried may have had a go on the padock
