Mitchell's defensive positioning is horrendous. I don't rate him at all.

Gnostic, Saffy - Pocock - Palu? I could get around that.

Unfourtunatly I can't see Saffy ever being picked regularlly at international level. He is a little like Matt Hodgson in some regards, meaning he is not an out-and-out 6 or 7. He doesn't have the size or line-out ability to play 6, but he has the tackling and ball running downpat. And as a 7 he is not a genuine fetcher, which is what Australian sides look for.

That being said, I hope he does get into the international set up this year, I rate him highly.

Yeah hard to disagree with all of that to be honest. He's a bit of a 6-and-a-half in the English mould. What I liked about his first season was how tight he played, he hit rucks and made tackles, and did so in a properly hard bastard sort of way. He's got the attitude we've been missing in Australian rugby.

Brought about from my desire to not see cips start at 10. That puts JOC (James O'Connor) in at 10 and a need to fill the 12 gap…..options are, with mortlock out, inman to 12, gerrard to 12, or Huxley to 12….if you’ve ever read a post by me you’ll know I don’t want to see Huxley at 12 again.

So gerrard or inman…I pick Inman because I feel with his aggressive play and hard running he could play the Roberts style 12.

It’s not my dream rebels team, but given who’s available, its what I’d like to see this week, instead of the team that will probably picked.

Did cirpriani fill you with confidence on Friday? He certainly did not fill me with any, nor did he all of last year…so what is he being selected on?

I understand what you are saying, but Hill will not drop Cips, nor will he put JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 unless he absolutely has to. That time is not here just yet.

Don't forget, the guys have spent all summer building combinations. With JOC (James O'Connor) and Inman (and Beale) in the attacking frame for the first time, Cips is just going through a period of adjustment.

Personally, I agree that when Cips is off, the whole team suffers. But I bet a penny to a pound that the line up of Cips, JOC (James O'Connor), Inman at 10/12/13 respectively remains as the status quo.

As for the Gerrard/Huxley problem, I see them being used as pinch hitters for the season.

If they were going to drop Cipriani, I would expect to see Beale at 10 over JOC (James O'Connor). We saw this setup being used rather liberally in the Blues trial match, with Beale coming in as alternate first reciever, feeding JOC (James O'Connor) and getting good runs.

Which arguably, is a much easier switch to fix, since 10 Beale, 12 JOC (James O'Connor), 13 Inman, 15 Gerrard works fine.

One thing I noticed about Beale when he played flyhalf for the Tahs last year is that he had lost the long accurate pass he used to have.

That is all.

I think Cips has to be the 10 really as you need JOC (James O'Connor) and KB (Kurtley Beale) as runners as much as anything to free up space for players like Vuna and Inman. I also think that KB (Kurtley Beale), Vuna, mixed with the experience of Gerard at the back could become a lethal back three.

Its your halfback that needs to go.....

I know I've been pushing the Stirzaker bandwagon pretty hard, but seriously, I want to see him given a run at some point. Kingi too. Both have much more potential than Phipps IMO, although Phipps is perhaps the more solid player right now.

You have to question if that is lack of ability or lack of intention. Using them could have been coached out of him, and now its a rusty tool in the shed, so to speak.

I think 1 bad game is hardly a reason to go calling for players heads. If he continues to under perform, I am sure he will be looked at seriously.

I'm not sure Stirzaker is the answer yet though, perhaps after some more pro conditioning. Also, isn't he in the EPS?

I agree with the first part, but generally i just think kinghi is a better player. Stirzaker is surely too young and raw at the moment and will need some further development.

I would suggest Phipps can't afford another bad game this week and certainly can't afford three in a row before being put to the bench.

tough call on who would be the back up 10 beteween JOC (James O'Connor) and Beale. JOC (James O'Connor) managed a fair bit of run when he was 10 at the force, so i'm not sure him playing at 10 would preclude him specifically from getting some run on.

I should have specified, I was definitely talking about Kingi.

I wouldn't be so quick to drop Phipps though, he was the golden child last year.

Also concerned at using Kingi as a utility anything. Although he can play anywhere, I think he'd be better off finding a position and honing his skills.
