Queensland Reds 2025

Reds are using Faessler on the social media promo posts for the Chiefs match, hopefully a good sign that he's back for this one.

Could be that Joe Schmidt, who helps in advising the Super Teams coaching staff, wants to see players (especially the props), who are eligible for the Wallabies squad, whereby JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen) is not.
But agreed that JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen) offers a lot to the front row.

Advising the Super teams’ marketing departments is absolutely not in the remit of the Wallabies’ head coach.

Regardless, I think it was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment from Phill, alluding to some previous discussions about JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen)’s media involvement.

Edit: I'm dumb - just realised you were talking about the actual team, not the socials content. Carry on.

Update on Liam Wright in the latest article up on rugby.com.au

But Kiss said Wright, whose latest injury return attempt lasted two games, will be "anywhere from two to eight weeks" after speaking to specialists about the lingering complaint.

"We'll see how that goes and give him that space," Kiss said of the flanker.

"Liam likes a plan and to be organised with that. That's what I respect and when he gets closer (to playing) and is willing to talk more about it (he'll provide more detail)."

8 weeks would be until the end of the regular season.

The headline made me chuckle though, technically correct but slightly misleading.

Ospreys close in on big singing

The Ospreys are closing in on the signing of Queensland Reds captain Ryan Smith in what would be a massive coup for the Welsh club.

Ospreys have Jack Walsh, a fly-half from NSW. Also there was an U20s player recently who went over and has played for Wales U20, but not many otherwise.

It's a shame though, figured Blyth/Smith would be prime targets for Waratahs and even Brumbies given Carter is reaching twilight of career.

When's Blyth off contract?

Smith is 28, if he isn't going to get a Wallaby contract then it would be hard for any Aussie team to be competitive, even with a Welsh club

To answer my own question, Uru and Blyth were announced on the same day and are contracted through 2025. You'd imagine Uru will get a biit of Wallaby top-up, but Blyth probably not. Not sure anyone else would be able to match what he would get OS either

Hard to know how the current top ups are distributed, but with most of the locks re-signing and Phillip coming in it's probably safe to assume there's not a lot on the table for him.

That said Blyth/Smith are probably on similar contracts with the Reds, losing one likely frees up the money to retain the other, for a year or two at least.
