Queensland Reds 2025

The Ghost of Raelene

They have only worn a stereotypical Aus Post Red for a about 10 -15 years 06-20 of the more than 100 year history of QLD Rugby. Nothing wrong with that strip but this is also what I think of with QLD Rugby.

A team called the Reds should have a uniform that is mostly red. This is not. Especially with blue shorts. The end.

Haha you Queenslanders are a funny breed! You get you knickers in a twist about your team wearing blue shorts because it would be too much like the bloody Tahs!! :p

My early pre-season XV for 2025 (I'm bored at work):

1. Hodgman
2. Faesslar
3. Nonggorr
4. Smith
5. Salakai-Loto
6. Wright (cc)
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. McDermott (cc)
10. Lynagh
11. Daugunu
12. Paisami/Henry (I prefer Henry but Paisami has the runs on the board so a toss up between the two)
13. Flook
14. Ryan
15. Campbell (Gordon to also get gametime with an eye to the future)

16. Nasser
17. Gibbon
18. Toomaga-Allen (De Luttiss to also get gametime)
19. Canham
20. Uru (Bryant and Brial to also get gametime)
21. Werchon
22. McLaughlin-Phillips
23. Goldsbrough (my bolter for the 25 season)

There will be injuries which will sideline some players, but for once it seems like we actually have some solid depth across all positions (especially in the forwards), so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the fringe players (Brial, Bryant, Fa'agase, Asiata, Blyth, De Luttiss, Gordon, Anderson etc) get significant minutes).

19. Canham

21. Werchon Thomas (offers a point of difference to Tate and Tate Jnr)
22. McLaughlin-Phillips
23. Goldsbrough (my bolter for the 25 season) Pakeho (my bolter)

Good line up, We're fkn stacked. Few changes I'd make but I'm splitting hairs.

Premiership soon.

One of the best things about this current squad is how settled it is, and how even the new guys coming in will have ~5 reds caps by the start of next season. Really well positioned to start strong and build from there.

I wonder if we'll see any rotation by RA this coming year? Considering its a lions year, the likes of Fass, Fraser, Wilson, Tate, Daungunu and LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) could be playing a lot of Super minutes, do they need to have an extra week or two off?

I don't think there will be any sort of forced resting from RA, the season is short and they've spoken about moving away from those policies previously. That said the depth and options in the squad should see some natural rotation, particularly in the locks, wings and centres.

who and why did the name "REDS" get chosen? The traditional state rep colour has always been MAROON.

What is a RED? Most teams have an emblem/logo/ alter ego that is a tangible item ie Tigers, Hurricanes, Lions, Crusaders, Rebels, Brumby.

The "reds" predates the maroon jersey.

This is from an 1882 NSW v QLD match report when they were wearing red and black
