Queensland Reds 2025

I assumed he was probably still a bit knocked from the blow. Agree it was a very bold show of faith to give the responsibility to Pakeho and good on the guy for nailing it.

Presuming Lynagh and Flook out backline for this week, no info just my thoughts
9. Mcdermott
10. HMP
11. dangunu (FFS it's Daugunu!)
12. Pakeho
13. Ryan
14. Anderson
15. Murray

21. Thomas
22. Gordon
23. Goldsborough

Did HMP finish the game, or was he HIA?? Couldn't see him on footage, no mention in commentary but seemed odd he didn't kick for touch or conversion at the end. If he gave the jobs away bit of a concern with his headspace/confidence. Probably simple explanation I'm not aware of

I know he played against Wales there, but I don’t like the idea of Ryan at 13 in Super Rugby.

He is struggling to recapture form this year, whether it’s fitness or confidence I don’t know but his error rate in defence and attack has been higher, his conditioning seems to be lacking in both speed and fitness this year compared to last.

I think playing him at 13 could be a disaster.

I tend to agree, but we are a bit short on options atm. I see Ryan as more a wing than 13 . Could swap him and dangunu (FFS it's Daugunu!). I don't think we can start Goldsborough, would be a very inexperienced midfield, HMP, Pakeho and Goldsborough, all talented but would be a big ask

It simply has to be Daugunu at 13.

I think Henry will be right for round 5, which will help give some options if Flook is a long termer.

Turns out losing 3 experienced centre options in JOC (James O'Connor), Petaia, and Stewart across a couple of seasons is not ideal.
Edit: 4 with Annan

Let Ryan develop on the Wing. 13 would be a way to cook his head defensively and it does lower his biggest weapon which is speed.

Daugunu to 13 but if for some reason they don’t want to do it then pick Goldsbrough. Just because Ryan has a bit of Super rugby in him doesn’t mean he’s a better Centre. Dre looked good enough and it would be about game planning to not have them do too much.

Hard part is no Jock at the back for organisation. Can see how 2 rookies at Centre and an unproven 15 could be a leap too far.

Would be nice to have Annan still around as well. Would of been ready made with experience and versatility!

If Lynagh is out and McLaughlin-Phillips is at 10 two rookie centres is too risky.

Even without that I think it would be suicide to put Pakeho & Goldsborough together at this point. Daugunu has played plenty of 13 and it leaves you with more experienced wingers.

Ehhh, there is a reason the Reds were happy to let guys like Annan and JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor) walk and elevate the other players in the squad.

Case in point is Pakeho. Played 80mins, had key involvements and we won the game. I can’t remember saying the same about Annan when he had to come into the side as injury cover.
Pakeho was great. Really solid debut. But he had Lynagh inside who, while only young is a capped fest player and is in his third year of Super rugby, and Flook outside him with Daugunu and Anderson also out there. He still got caught out in defence half a dozen times.

I think it’s possible to be confident that these guys are genuinely good talents but also that it’s too early to be throwing them all out there together.

Might be an interesting prep week with Alfred hanging around off the coast, hopefully they're exploring their options around an earlier trip out to Christchurch, not sure flights on Thursday and Friday will be too reliable.

I thought they were going from Perth to Christchurch? That's what Kiss seemed to suggest in his interview post-match
Oh I didn't realise but that's good to hear. I had thought they might have stopped in at Brisbane for a few days given it's enroute, but heading direct will bypass all those issues and should give them their best possible prep.

8 hours on a domestic jet as a big rig sounds more painful than hill sprints.

Hopefully Alliance is able to get them a plane so they can have a spare seat between each other.

Flook definitely out, but apparently Lynagh passed his second HIA (after failing the first one) and will be clear to play:
Meanwhile, the Reds are expected to be without consistent centre Josh Flook for Sunday’s showdown with the Crusaders in Christchurch.

The Wallaby was forced off in the second half during the Reds’ four-point win over the Force with a hamstring injury.

The Roar has been told the 23-year-old will have a scan on Monday afternoon but won’t be in the picture for their trans-Tasman fixture.

The injury could see Filipo Daugunu shift to outside centre, with Tim Ryan likely to return to the wing.

In better news Tom Lynagh, who didn’t feature in the second half after being knocked over by a clumsy challenge from Nic Dolly that perplexingly didn’t get looked at by officials, is likely to be available.

The Wallaby immediately fell to the ground as an upright Dolly collided with Lynagh’s jaw moments after the fly-half passed the ball. Extraordinarily, officials turned a blind eye to the shot.

It’s understood the playmaker initially failed his Head Injury Assessment before passing a second test.

The result means Lynagh should be fit to take on the Crusaders, given it’s more than seven days before their next game
