Queensland Reds 2025

Shocked at how late this tour is but I guess they have a bye round 1, so they get back presumably around the 9th/10th Feb for their first game 11 days later.

Agreed. But I am guessing we will a lot of squad rotation this year with the larger squad sizes and Lions tour happening. So they aren't too worried about burnout.

Yeh I reckon a few of them may not even play. Kiss mentioned a number of times that the 'tour mentality' was the important piece of this exercise, bringing back that old school rugby mindset.

In 2024 we had two pre-season games on 03 and 10th of Feb, so it's roughly the same keeping in mind the Reds also had an end-of-season tour. So the gap between games is a lot smaller than the rest of the other Australian teams.

I’m pretty sure Jude was training last week at 10/15, but there’s a couple of fit players who aren’t travelling. Most of those are In positions where there are others potentially ahead of them so might have capped it due to tour squad size.

Gibbs is likely the no.3 choice in both positions so I get not going.

10s: Lynagh, HMP, Gibbs
15: Campbell, Gordon, Gibbs

HMP also offers 15 so he could be 4th at Fullback.

I did to, and great for country rugby.
But I reckon this is a better preparation for the year.
I guess time will tell. But I'm pretty sure no-one is "getting on the piss"

If by ‘no-one’ you mean every player after the game, then yes.

UK clubhouse after-match pissups are the stuff of legend. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re peeling Harry Wilson off the changeroom floor when it is time to go home.

But I think that is part of the fun of these tours and bringing the team together.

Given how little games the Queensland Reds actually play, if its financially doable, both a tour and playing in the country should be something they strive for.

Touring Japan and then the UK/Europe is all possible after super season is done and doesn't require the Wallabies (hell the Reds could tour the UK when the Wallabies have their EOYT and allow for the Wallabies to pull in players for injury cover or training partners).

I think this pre-season tour is going to be particularly important this year, entirely aside from the on field - with so many players coming from the Rebels it's a really good opportunity to bring the squad together as one and ease some of the tensions that come from a that change to the squad.
