I think tomorrow is the committal. I don't really know anything about criminal law, but I think that this means it may be heard summarily tomorrow, or the magistrate may order that there be a trial or the magistrate may rule there is insufficient evidence to do anything. In any event, tomorrow may not necessarily be the end of the matter. Anyone who knows anything about committals etc able to comment?

Spot on Tiger,
It may get kicked out or kicked to a superior court or wind up with just legal argument all day

Wont the case be put on one of the legal databases online? (AustLII comes to mind)

probably, but it'd be nice to also get the scoop, put the news out first..

Are there any legal eagles on the site who have access to the charges? It'd be really cool if someone in the know could write a blog piece on the legal strategies he could employ ;)

QC (Quade Cooper) seems to be able to do very little without posting it on twitter so will probably be tweeting from the dock

Case has been adjourned to September 17th. So it continues. This is the week after Tri Nations

Probably just as well. The possibility of jailtime seems to have focused his concentration remarkably this season. Actually this committal could be a timely shot-in-the-arm for his form ahead of the trinations. Maybe someone should roofie giteau and set him up for a burglary. Of course given his poor form and high pay, the ARU might just tear up his contract a la Tuqiri.

no need for roofies, why not charge him with stealing someone elses spot in the team based on historical form

Whatever he did or didn't do - he's off the charges now.

Burglary charges against Quade Cooper dropped, says lawyer
From: The Courier-Mail July 16, 2010 10:09AM Increase Text Size Decrease Text Size Print Email Share Add to Digg Add to del.icio.us Add to Facebook Add to Kwoff Add to Myspace Add to Newsvine What are these? WALLABY rugby union star Quade Cooper is a relieved man today after charges relating to an alleged burglary on the Gold Coast were withdrawn.

Cooper's lawyer Dan McManus issued a statement saying the charges had been withdrawn in the Southport Magistrates Court after "completion of a justice mediation process with the complainants, conducted through the Department of Justice and Attorney-General".

Cooper, 22, has produced his best season for the Queensland Reds and Wallabies even with court proceedings hanging over his head since the burglary allegations arose from events on a drunken night out on December 6 last year.

He made a brief appearance in Southport Magistrates Court on July 1 when the matter was initially adjourned to September 17.

Resolution of the drama means he will have full focus on his next Test against South Africa at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on July 24.

Probably a good result all round. Would love to have known the full story though.
Now let's play some footy, Quade!!

Good stuff.

#1 Tah will be devastated though.

Yup, I think QC (Quade Cooper) could have at least had the decency to go to jail and completely destroy his career to keep #1 Tah happy....

Anyway, great news and let's move on. Show us how happy you are Coops. I want 3 tries and at least 5 try assists next week.... :)

(Oh, and throw Gits a bone matey. He has been a bit grumpy lately thanks to you).

A lot of nasty things were said about a person who has been found guilty of nothing!

Whilst undoubtedly good news for rugby, something whiffs about this and the smell is fairly overpowering.

The message appears to be that if you are famous enough and have the right connections who are prepared to grease the appropriate wheels in the manner desired then you can avoid criminal justice. Oh, and also be a good boy for the year, make sure your media team consistently reinforce that you are a changed and reformed person, that you'd laid off the sauce etc.

This might come as quite a surprise to a few on this board but the game of rugby is not bigger than civility, humanity and community.
