Mate this is the third thread I have opened that you're having a go at Deans in. I got your point six months ago.

The question was asked why select Giteau, and the answer given to see of Giteau is the backup. Yes the post is critical of the coach, who else put a player in a position he was heavily criticized in last year and the year before that. I feel for Giteau in fact, he was set up to fail almost. I could of course restrict myself to badging the tripe out of some very good players week after week without offering critique of the crew who have let many of them down by some poor selections no tactics and lack of bench use. Any comment on a squad or game should in part have comment on the coaching staff

My point was that repeating your dislike of the coaching staff over and over again is different threads doesn't prove your point it just stops people from paying attention to them.

Being able to watch the Reds games live I got an insight into actually how well Cooper runs the backline with Genia. Both don't lack confidence, and they are in positions that need it. If Cooper doesn't like the quality of ball on attack, he just won't take it, and instead screams at his forwards to get in there and work it in tight until he is ready to receive it. Genia is the one who marshalls the forwards and gets the ball out quickly into front foot ball until Cooper is ready.

In the first half in particular, we missed this kind of organisation. I think it's one thing that Gits lacks, and Phipps will learn. The forwards either took one too many picks and drives (Phipps/forwards fault), or the ball was too slow and they didn't set fast enough for the next phase (Phipps fault, with a little Gits who should be shouting at them as well), until finally the forwards lost the ball or the Gits finally decided to take the ball whilst way to deep and do nothing with it (Gits fault).

I know there's plenty of people here currently upset at Deans, Williams, and co., but let's try to keep all the coach slanging in the coach slanging thread. Just saves the same stuff being repeated in three different locations (sorry, I know I am guilty of doing similar stuff too).

The mods already do a good job of merging similar threads, but it gets hard when threads are always pulled in certain directions, like: "Deans sucks!"; or "screw you Deans!"; or sometimes, just a Seinfeldesque Newman-like "Deans". Mention it maybe once in a thread if it's relevant (eg "oh, bad selection from Deans, see my corresponding reasoned rant in the Deans is the son of the dark prince from the 7th layer of hell (South Island NZ) and must have his left testicle amputated stat thread"), but then move on, and go into more depth in the Deans thread. Then, for example, we can go back to talking about how Cooper isn't the most important player, but is part of a core group of players of which if we lose any we're boned, or, for another example, we can start wondering at how many tissues and sticky keyboards some Reds fans on G&GR must go through the way they ejaculate over espouse enthusiastically for all of the Reds players.

That way, if someone wants to get sticky over the Reds, they don't have to do it in the "WE ALL HATE DEANS!" (he should select more Reds because they are dreamy and if I squint hard enough Saia and Anthony appear feminine enough...) thread or if they hate Deans they don't have to do it in the "I hate random player x because he smells like yesterday's ass cheese thread" (if I was coach I would only select players who smell like today's ass crackers, those yesterday's ass cheese smelling players suck! DEANS MUST GO.).

Also, not everyone currently abhors Deans and thinks that just maybe he's not the love spawn of Britney Spears and the 12th Daddo brother, then the Deans hate is not shoved down their throats in normal sounding threads, like "Hi, I'm a Reds fan, and would like to know where to buy some cheap tissues and keyboards?".

Deans is just one example of a topic where that happens.

Sorry for the rambling, but I'm tired and need sleep.

Genia is our most important. And will be the best player in the world after the WC (I already think that he is).

I agree. The way Deans want us to attack, we need the backline alignment to be alot flatter than v's Samoa. Genias pass allows this. Giteau looked better when Genia fed him the ball. I know Beale was 5/8 when Genia was 1/2 but Giteau did come in from the wing for some first receiver work. He looked better. Mind you; Cooper > Giteau at 5/8.

Actually I'd have Giteau over Cooper for any defensive plays. And assuming Beale is 15 and stays as the last line of defence how is Cooper going to be hidden?

Coopers defense has come a long way this year in my view. Granted from an abysmal base that still makes him sub par. With an effective backrow-centre combination to lock down channels and ruck/maul and the depth of utility in our backs, it is going to be very hard for oppositions to pin down our attack/counter-attack. I hope.

At it's simplest we can go JOC (James O'Connor) forward, QC (Quade Cooper) back but I am hoping it will be more fluid than that.

I also saw a high shot on McCaw from behind which ended up with a turnover or some loose ball somewhere. He has been hidden this year in the Reds. Lets pray you are right, we would all love to see him with the same ability as Larkham or Wilkinson or Carter in this department.

I watched that Carter try a number of times, but for a different reason. While the commentators moaned about Coopers pisspoor attitude in not forcing Carter, I had been watching centre play. As some will know for some time I have been posting concern about our weak midfield. Having replayed the segment multiple times, the two players responsible AFaingaa and Beau Robinson, and if anything Beau got credit for breaking off another tackle ASAP. Cooper didn't miss the tackle, in fact he did well to get close by then. His screwup was not forcing the try.

I'm pretty sure that his is the way they will play Quade. After rewatching the Samoa game I took note of defensive structures and Gits often dropped back to field kicks while the wingers stayed a little flatter than is usual. This is clearly not to "Hide" the 5/8 as Giteau is not known for defensive frailties, rather it appears Deans is attempting to cement the counterattacking 5/8 as a key element of the defensive structure whether or not Quade is playing.

Smart move in my opinion as the whole backline follows a structure regardless of whose playing which position. I'd prefer it to simply shifting to accommodate Quade when he's on the field which could lead to confusion and poor positional awareness.

I would say Genia and at the moment he is in red hot form. Cooper is great at S15 level but I am unsure whether he is the type of player you want when the Wobs are under pressure in the business end of the RWC
