Using Lote Tuqiri's case as precedent, it's 3 strikes and you're out isn't it? If not it will make the ARU/JON look like hypocrites.

I have been shattered by this incident and not disposed to post on the matter, but the practicalities of it are that if he pleads not guilty when it is brought up for mention this week, then the matter may not be resolved for a long time.

I don't think that it serves any purpose for people to get on their high horse at this stage, nor even to excuse him, when he is not guilty of anything until he declares it himself or is proved to be so in court.

We should wait until the legal process is concluded.

Funny, because I would say don't believe everything you read in papers.. but you're still a cheeky c*nt aren't you.

Seriously though, you make a very good point.
"i had a mate about 2 years ago who was charged with rape, he was going down on a chick and had a orgasm and then decided that she regretted what she did and accused him of rape. He spent $60'000 and had to get his parents to mortage his house just to have the case thrown out of court because if was total bullshit. It took over 12months of stress, he lost a lot of friends over it and his repuation and his career were ruined becasue they had caught wind of it.

Now im not saying this is similar to Quade's case, but what i am trying to point out that judging someone before they are found guilty is just stupid and naive. "

Essentially what you have highlighted is that - in this day and age - companies, friends and the media care more about appearances. Whether innocent or not, the image the a player/worker/friend projects onto their surroundings is very important. Facts are what should matter, but in the end, it's all about first impressions.

For example: We do a lot of Mungo bashing on this website because we know that there are a few leaguies that have been caught breaking the law one way or another.. Now that's not a reflection on all leaguies by any means, but the image sticks. (haven't heard you defend them when we prejudge all the mungos)

Your mate may have been innocent, may not have been, that's not the point, Companies don't want someone accused of rape being linked to them. Catholic schools probably don't enjoy having sick peadophiles running around in their schools but we all assume the priest is one.

I think you can see where I am going. Quade - innocent or not - is just not on board our train. I like the three strikes plan. Everyone can have a couple of fuck ups, and I don't count the food fight.. I do count smashing a cabby's window, but at the end of the day, if they're just not figuring out that bad press is actually bad, then what choice do you have?

I've been looking at the Schoolies photos from this week (could be involved surely ????) and you know what.. Quade seems to me to be more part of all the teenage shit going on up there than part of the establishment that is a Capped Wallaby who wears our jersey with pride, just a larrakin out to get pissed and have a laugh.

I don't want a player wearing GREEN and GOLD if he is going to get arrested and plastered on the news bringing our previously well respected game into disrepute. You want to fuck around, breaking peoples shit when you're hammered or on drugs, well, go represent some other sport.

Don't you think that if Quade had been arrested wrongly there would have been a big story about it by now?

Can't have been wrongly arrested - lawyers didn't take that line, nor did they even come out and say it was just a misunderstanding.. Worse, they tried the amnesia line and are hoping that the cops won't be able to string all the evidence together..

After our own Doost van der Westhuizen incident I hope he'll get out and just man up put the truth out there. That way the dust settled earlier. Doost made a complete arse out of himself trying to hide the truth to the supporters and his family. A painfull experiense and some of this high profile players is nothing less then complete spoiled brats.

maybe i see these situations in a different light because i have witnessed first hand how it can unfairly discriminate and ruin a persons life, now i mention the word 'discriminate' because thats exactly what happens.

I dont want criminals getting around in the Wallaby jersey either, but i would hate to see rugby perpetuate itself in such a manor that its punishing people who are found guilty of nothing except been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ive seen it all before and the only thing that burning a effergy of Quade Cooper would achieve right now is cement rugby union as the truly elitist and souless sport that it has been slammed for projecting in the past.

If Quade is found guilty, then that is another story, rag on him all you want, right now though he isnt guilty of anything.

Apparently happened after he attended Hynes' Bucks Party that night...

http://www.scrum.com/australia/rugby/story/106950.html

It has emerged that Quade Cooper was attending Wallabies team-mate Peter Hynes' buck's party on Saturday night before he allegedly robbed a local Gold Coast residence, and that he underwent independent blood and urine tests after being released by police - possibly at the behest of the Australian Rugby Union.

In a further twist, reports in Australia indicate Cooper will use memory-loss as a defence against a charge of burglary after he was alleged caught taking laptops from the home of two foreign students after forcing entry into their Budds Beach home at around 4am on Sunday.

and further into the article

''Given that Quade has been charged and the matter is before the court, we are limited in what we can say on Quade's behalf about the circumstances giving rise to the alleged offence,'' the statement read. ''Similarly, as much as he would like to, Quade is unable to make any comments to the media about the circumstances.

So is it true that Cooper was caught with the laptops as well? Not looking good for the kid.

At least one report says he was caught in the act. So perhaps he was detained by the residents till the coppers got there?....... too pissed to be able to get away, or outnumbered. That would explain how the police got him at least.

Not looking good if that's the case, and his only defence will be the eternal disclaimer "I was pissed"....... and hopefully for his sake, not stoned or high on anything!

Whilst not wanting to jump to conclusions (innocent until proven guilty, yada yada), what are the ramifications for touring if he is convicted? Surely he couldn't get into the UK, is that the same with South Africa or NZ?

Scotty

David Codey (61)
If he is convicted he would be unlikely to get into the Reds or Wallabies, so it might not be a concern. He will have to play league.

(PS Palu doesn't have an issue getting into those countries and he was in jail!)

He wouldn't be able to tour the US or Canada if convicted...

Not that the wallabies have toured in that direction since the 70's.

While I agree with some that there are a few witch-burners here, I think we must apply the Common Man rule to this one:

If I found some little bastard with a haircut like that breaking into my house or in my backyard with his hands on any of my gear, I'd throw the book at him.

Yeah its a mistake by a young bloke on the piss, but its all too common in the last few years of rugby with food fights, nightclub incidents, ice throwing shemozzles and taxi smashing going on. I firmly believe that the media these days contributes to the problem. They're far more nosey than in days gone by (see #9 at http://blog.sport.co.uk/Rugby_Union/250/Top_Ten_Lions_Moments.aspx for an example) but that's what happens when the game is worth money in terms of column inches.

"Memory loss" just shows that he's too fucking irresponsible to drink or do drugs properly and therefore deserves whatever he gets. Don't let the fact that he's a rugby player get in the way of what is right and just.

If he heartily apologises, pays his fines or whatever penalties the system decides is due, then I'm happy for him to get back into rugby. If he gets off scot-free then good for him.

But until that happens the rugby field is off-limits to Quade Cooper.
