If the ARU had allowed McMeniman to continue to play for Queensland Reds in the Japanese off-season, he would have been available for the Wallabies' World Cup campaign. "I had a chat to Robbie Deans about it," McMeniman said. "Right now, I'd say no, but you never know. It's still a fair way away."
HUGH McMeniman put pen to paper on a multi-million dollar contract with Japanese club Kubota yesterday, but it is most likely that the athletic back-five forward has played his last game for the Wallabies. McMeniman is contracted to the ARU until December, which means he is still eligible for selection on the Grand Slam tour of Britain and Ireland.
But McMeniman does not want to embark on a farewell Wallabies tour unless he has fully recovered from the ankle injury which has sidelined him since April. "It's a matter of getting my body right," McMeniman said yesterday. "I don't want to go over there and fall apart. If I'm not 100 per cent fit, I won't be available. If I had to make a decision right now, I wouldn't be up to it. I've done three running sessions and I've had to stop because of tendonitis in my ankle and knee. It's a slow and tedious process."
...If McMeniman does not go on the tour, he will have...to wait before the start of the Japanese season next September.

Not to bad really, when you factor in the added maturity of Genia, Cooper, Ioane, Horwill and Houston next year. The Reds are starting to finally have a decent level of maturity across the board.

I didn't realise wtf MMM has gone and done. OK, granted he's injured (as always) but did any of us know he's not going to join Kubota until September 2010? What's he going to do from January until September next year? Why is the ARU still paying him if he's injured and buggering off? If his contract's for three years he'll play for them until February 2013.
A sad case of unrequited talent.
the reds management debacle has been done to death, what i am looking at is what team we actually have next year, not what team we could have had.. I highly doubt that TPN would have wanted to join QLD as well, he is a true blue westie with quite a large family in sydneyScotty said:louie said:could lucas play inside ?
I reckon he will be bench back up for 9/10 and might allow Mooney to have a 5/2 split for when our unfit forwards run out of puff.

Yes, but if the Reds management did their job we would might have had a team with Elsom, Barnes and Moore, and all of a sudden being strong enough to finish near the top, rather than the middle being just about as good as we could hope for.
I also hear rumors that TPN wanted to come here at one stage and they didn't want him cos 'we have lots of talent players coming through'.
Noddy said:So apparently the board are now tossing up two options, before appointing a coach.
1) Appoint whoever is best available now for a multi-year contract. Starting ASAP. This basically means Link McKenzie now I assue. Not sure what Todd Louden's contract story is.
2) Appoint an interim coach for 2010 and chase some off-contract coaches next year. This means, basically, appointing Knuckles for next year only and then chasing Chieka or Foley for 2011 and beyond
Sorry but option 2 stinks as far as I am concerned. If it happens I will boycot the Reds next year. It is such a defeatist attitude in my books.
Just sign Link and stop blaming the coach. This QRU board is soft as shit.
