QLD Premier Rugby 2025

Practically Norths and Wests are both in the same position in terms of playing finals footy - they need to win 8 of their remaining 10 games.
At present GPS are in 4th with 16 points having played 5 games for 3 wins whereas Wests(15 points) & Norths(13) both clubs having played 6 for 2 wins.
GPS having had their bye potentially makes this a 5/6 point margin at the half way point of the season - mathematically it is not impossible for Wests or Norths but given their respective performances to date it seems highly unlikely that they can achieve 8 wins from 10 games to make the semis from here.

Wests finish the first half of the season -
GPS (round 7), Norths (8), bye,
Norths finish bye, Wests, Bond.
So both Wests and Norths will declare over the next three weeks whether either of them can make a real run at finals footy. Both clubs would like to pick up 2 wins over this period but obviously that can’t be the case for both clubs.

Crazy end to the Souths V Easts game on the weekend. Rule 6.1 or whatever but looked a tough call on the Magpies

Could they not agree?

Schrödinger's try - tough, but what can you do? Nothing on Stan that suggests Souths definitely got it down. Good that the ref held his conviction and didn't guess

I actually thought the previous infringement could have been a pen try. As it was earlier in the game.
Agree - thought it should've been a penalty try. Brave ref to make a call like that to decide a game though.
I also reckon everyone knew that ball was on the ground in the last play, the Easts blokes seemed like they were just hoping for the best from the ref.
Cracking game and regardless of any refereeing calls, exciting finish.

Nothing in the rules of rugby that says benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team.
Herbert didn’t blow up about it and Jordan Way tried to get the best look he could. I can’t think anyone at the ground or even if they had a TMO could have awarded the try. JP probably had the best vision!
Sets up a big Bunter Bowl clash between the two undefeated sides in Brothers & Easts on Saturday at Bottomley Park.

I think it should've been decided before the final maul, with the awarding of a penalty try(as was awarded to Easts in the first half) for collapsing the previous maul. IMHO!

Warehouse I respect your thoughts but sense that they may not be that objective in this instance given your magpie allegiance.
It was a good game of footy and the referee (Jordan Way who played lower grades at Easts 10 years back) seemed to do a good job - it would have been a brave call to award a penalty try and the game to Souths, and I don’t think he could have got any humanly closer in the final call - there was only one call he could make at that point in time unfortunately for you and your club that was no try game over.
Great thing about rugby is that there is next week and next time you meet (the Tigers).
The way the season is shaping up I think Souths & Easts will probably meet another couple of times in 2025.

It's Warhorse not Warehouse(although over the years I am now the size of a large building). Why should it be anymore brave to make a CORRECT call in the 83rd minute than in the 3rd minute? Yes I have been a player, coach, administrator and supporter of Souths for 55 years but I can still have an opinion on what was the right call. Cheers.

Sounds like that train has pulled up at Salty Station there boss.

Does Taqele still collect his $4k when the team loses?

GPS aren’t winning the premiership with their side this year, neither are Sunnybank for that matter. Can’t be dropping those games!
They've lost 3 on the trot now isn't it? And haven't lead at all in any of those games. It's probably not time to hit the panic button just yet, but they'd better get a wriggle on.

Just like the collapsed maul at the death in the 2023 GF that everyone in the world saw except the ref. Same ref was it?

Souths lead 7-0 last and again late in the second half 22-19 (HT 10-19) before Easts scored the final try - there is no doubt that they are a good side I wouldn’t be writing them off just yet.

oh sorry was the original post about GPS - wouldn’t write them off either.

finally I get it …..

oh, you are speaking about Norths having lost their last 3 games - I am prepared to write-off the Eagles as they have the bye and then the Bulldogs in round 8.
