Not long now.
Can nearly smell the burgers and pies mixed with the aroma of liniment.
The post match beers are on the tip of the tongue.

Any scores from around the grounds yesterday?
Bond - UQ - Sunnybank
Bond dominated the scoreboards. 1 or 2 try difference in each game.
All teams looked a bit rusty as expected.
Surprise packet was the Sunnybank outfit. Played a good style of tough rugby. Took opportunities and didn't play like easy beats.

What was the go at Sunnybank?
Field one closed. Surely not because of a bit of rain the night before. A few hours of sun on saturday morning and it looked an absolute treat to play on.
No canteen. Normally an awesome set up out there but nothing doing this week.
Cynic in me might think there is a problem with numbers out there across the board.

Hi - heard that Brothers only went contested for 40 minutes in the prems game and all other games they went uncontested against GPS

Brothers opted to ‘rest’ a bunch of players from their Prems/Reggies squad this weekend. A few were unavailable and they opted to hold a few more back for some reason. The team that runs out next weekend will be vastly different.

Those players participated in a session at Brothers on Saturday morning instead. I’m all for not playing your best team straight off the bat, but I do find it pretty strange, why you’d run a session on the morning of a first trial. Why not just give them a few minutes of an actual game? The players have been training for 10 weeks, get them on the field!!

Yeah that seems strange. I don’t know what the coach’s angle was but not really in the spirit of the game if those comments are correct.

They are correct. Spoke directly to a Brothers player today who was involved in the session at Brothers on Saturday morning. It wasn’t just a gym session either - ball skills, fitness and contact. Very bizarre and sounds like a few of the players not impressed either.

It does fit the narrative but no one will care come round one. Club supporters will point out Prop crisis etc.

Anyone know how the Dalby Rugby Club fared in the floods yesterday/today?

As of right now, I believe the trials against Dalby, GPS and UQ are still going ahead out there this weekend.

I notice the highest trial the Wheatman are playing in is 3rd grade. I happen to know a couple of the blokes playing at the club and they would easily slot into a Prems squad in Brisbane - the poor GPS and UQ 3rd grade boys are going to wake up bloody sore on Sunday.

Farm boys tackle cows all week to practice for Saturday --- hahahaha

Colts will be at the High School according to Dalby rugby FB page.

I wonder how the QLD Reds feel about a grade trial kick off half an hour before their Brumbies game? Perhaps GPS and UQ could have scheduled this when the Reds were playing away? There are precious few home Super Rugby games and precious few bums on Suncorp Stadium seats.

QPR still doesn't speak to SANZAAR?

Great initiative to go to the bush but why this weekend and why schedule the games so late so people cannot get back to Brisbane to watch their state? I would have thought the Reds would appreciate the support. God rugby shoots itself in the foot sometimes!

Some smart bloke suggested this could have even been a curtain raiser (GF replay and all that) but I am not sure of that.

So when the Reds go to the bush its a good thing but when QPR does it is a no-no?

Scheduled because QPR starts in earnest after east and Downs Rugby starts on 9 April. Last opportunity.

Why don't Reds schedule some Sunday afternoon games if they want bigger crowds or make the pricing a little more reasonable? Or maybe have some curtain raiser games and make a day of it?

I am not sure the Reds are really going to miss 40 blokes who can't get to Suncorp. I'm sure Dalby will appreciate those guys chucking some money into their bar more than the Reds will. They've got bigger problems with their gameday product, like a distinct lack of marketing this season, ask anyone outside the regular rugby circles when the Reds are playing and the answer is 'who?'. Also would be nice to have a game or two played on Sunday afternoon to get the whole family down.

But from a viewership standpoint in general it is an odd decision to kick-off so late. You would think the blokes playing would at least want to watch the game on TV.
