Qld GPS Rugby 2022

So you tipping GT now?? Yesterday it was Nudgee?? You sit on the fence you will get splinters
To be honest DC , I was absolutely backing Nudgee as Boulters for a 40 or 50 point win , but "Rugbymans " in vain , but valiant effort to talk Nudgee into "Underdog status" really struck a chord with me. "Rugbyman" seems like a decent chap, so I thought I'd try and lend some weight to his argument and back GT for the win. We still feel a bit bad , about the Viking win, so I thought I would buy some goodwill, and help the Nudgee lads out.

I must say , when I typed it, I had tears of laughter in my eyes. Nudgee are out and out, unbackable favourites for a cricket score this weekend, and to hear the case for Underdog status , well I had to play along !!!

So here it is again - GT to win!

I think Terrace will be favorites this weekend after their victory v IGS and generally how they are building into the season and now at home against Nudgee which will put them in Premiership contention if they win on Saturday. Nudgee are going to struggle to win on Saturday and a one point victory will be a huge relief for the Nudgee supporters if they manage to win. Best of luck to Terrace, if they beat us, I want them to go all the way and get the Premiership for St. Josephs.
How on earth could Terrace be in Premiership Contention? They are currently in a tie for 5th with TGS and BGS. They need to play NC, TSS and TGS to finish the season - none of which I expect they will win.

what home ground advantage. Nudgee supporters will out number terrace supoorters.
Few photos of the last time GT had a victory over NC , Sept 2016.

Hopefully we will see a similar crowd this year , plenty of Back & Red amongst the supporters.

I see that Nudgee have been dominant over GT since 2016 and I suspect many years before that......

That got me thinking. I have pinched this from 2021 Forum and developed so I hope they forgive me, but it does not have the away games results. I would love to see the head to head results, both and home and away of Churchie vs Nudgee this century. ie since 2000. Now Quade and Pocock dominated in the 2004-2006 teams?? so I suspect Nudgee struggled against the era, but may have made up for it in recent years.

The Point being that perhaps Nudgee has not been quite as dominant against Churchie during this period and perhaps its Churchie who has had the dominant first 15 teams since 2000 - prove me wrong Nudgee.

Can anyone fill in the gaps?

Norselander you can probably assume that any gaps are Nudgee victories as you would for sure remember the Churchie wins. Churchie and TSS have both has relatively strong success on Ross this millennia against Nudgee. The 1960s in the golden era for Churchie in rugby and sport in general.

My point re Terrace is that I wouldn't write them off this weekend. They have an absolutely outstanding rugby pedigree and whilst the school's focus has changed a lot these days to bringing in a cohort of superstar desk jockeys, no one can take away the fact the school culture is draped in Qld rugby history. The bounce of the ball will determine who wins this one.

Norselander we love your canine inspired Viking enthusiasm but let’s get real - Nudgee is and will be for a long time the preeminent Rugby institution - not dissimilar to the All Blacks. I think it’s great Churchie are doing well this year but she’s been as dry as a Danish pastry for the past few years.

NC - GT a draw but waiting on team lists as I think the Nudge may have a few injury concerns in key positions

Oh Nausealander, I do love how your sample size is picked to suit. For transparency and integrity, lets just do it from the start. Then there can be no arguments.

Nudgee is a very old school, established 1891 and Churchie a newby at 1912. So maybe Nudgee played with themselves to knock up 19 on them.

Also Churchie won 18 titles and 14 outright would that mean 4 shared how come 8 shared? Can we get the number fact checked or is this Nudgee Mathematics ?

Sorry Nausealander I put the wrong heading for the third column. I should have read "Wooden Spoon". Congrats you guys won something. Also mate GPS Rugby didn't start till 1918. wrong again big fella. keep throwing darts.

I "howl" with Warrior delight Oracle at your emotional post to defend your defeated garrison( Unlike you to post like that) - I feel your hurt through your learned writings - but the force is strong in the East this year for they have built a mighty army that splintered 2 Roman legions on the Main Battlefield a few weeks back and as such they currently feast on Wild Boar and Goblets of (non-alcoholic ) Ale and Dance with the prettiest Maidens in the land, in Jubilant celebration. They need not your dry Danish Pastry nor swallow your wild stories of far lands preeminent rugby institutions. They have all they need. That Victory meant they have been to Valhalla this season already......... more music!

BTW All Blacks got dusted to by Ireland this year - are you sure thats the best example? lol

PS I enjoy your regular posts.

I had to split these comments across three posts...

The official Premiership kicked off in 1918 meaning there have been less than 100 seasons contested if we remove the WW2 years (4 years) and the Covid year (1 year) but Churchie were there for all the official GPS rugby seasons.

If we also count the pre-1918 years between the old schools (just friendlies) and the Covid year, it would not be unreasonable to suggest that Nudgee would have won safely 50 or so Premierships.

With 42/43 wins, Nudgee's winning rate is around 42/43% (if we add the Covid year...) or just under 1 Premiership every 2nd season (flip the coin).

Churchie's winning rate is around 18% or about 1 Premiership per 5th/6th season (roll the dice).

Terrace's winning rate is about 1 win per decade (decade shifts in technology between premierships such as colour TV, the internet).

BBC's winning rate is 1 win in the 20th Century and 1 win in the 21st Century i.e. approximately 2% winning rate (in between generational and historical events spanning two world wars, the rise of China, the Cuban missile crisis, the reign of King George VI to the closing reign of QEII, the moon landing, the fall of the Soviet Union).

Well played Norselander - true warriors battle without vitriol- for the records I’m a proud BBC old boy - (even this year) and all the best for a solid joust on Saturday.

P.S. when your old enough you’ll acknowledge that even if they don’t win a game for the next 10 years the All Blacks are one of the world’s greatest ever sporting successes and always will be. Not just their winning record but the way they lose. :)

On a more constructive point, Churchie did not move to the current site until 1918 and so I suspect they were the grade ones :) so it took a few years to get a competitive rugby program up and running. They did win the premiership first in 1938 so their title wins have mostly come after the war.

I have done my homework and of the 35 outright titles Nudgee have won 12 outrights were won between 1918 and 1945 . So 1/3 of their wins , were won before world war 2.

So when we take this pre war period out - you can start to see that the two schools titles are getting closer to even.

I like what you are uncovering though- interesting stats hey? keep them coming.

Plenty of super smart kids come out of Nudgee and plenty of super top notch sportsmen come out of Terrace. The combined alumni between Nudgee and Terrace is incredible. Same for Churchie.
