QLD GPS Rugby 2021

Reds Revival

Stan Wickham (3)
NC def Churchie 26-0
BBC def State High 33-0
TSS def BGS 29-12
TGS def Terrace 36-29
IGS def BGS 7-0
IGS def TSS 19-7

I think its pretty clear this year is a 2 horse race. NC and BBC only ones with a shot to take it out. I wasn't there to watch the games but score line suggests Annan did well at 10 for BBC.

NC 26-0 over ACGS says they are not here for fun and games, definitely playing with a chip on their shoulder after losses to BBC in 2020 and 2019.

Will be a spectacle in round 2. Draw between NC and BBC last week makes it all the better!

BSHS had 5 away at Met East League

Was at the state high v bbc trial game, Taj Annan at 10 looked comfortable. The young bloke on the wing was a standout. Delacruz Ripley. Bagged himself 2 quick meat pies. State high also scored 2 tries in the 2nd half so I’m unsure as to why that’s not reflected in the score. Wasn’t a bad effort from state high considering having 10 of their starters away for Met East.

Having been at the TSS trials 2 weeks ago ,seeing NC take apart ACGS on Saturday,and talking to a leading player agent that was also at those matches-a couple of observations can be made:
1) the agent told me NC and BBC look the two fittest teams at this stage;
2) BBC seem to have the best forward pack- with only 2 missing from last years premiers and the first choice number 8 back -their pack ( especially the back row) looks formidable. I expect their 7 to be dominant;
3) the NC backline is all class -with some handy new wingers. If the BBC injuries to 10 /13 are as bad as people say-NC must be favourites. Robert T and Mappa to dominate;
4) TSS have too many RL boys still playing league and look disjointed.They will be very good come the real season;
5) BSHS- if they get their number 1 team out will cause problems - but real lack of depth;
6) talking to a ACGS parent -the 6 new boys ( 4 from NZ) were stunned at the speed of the NC game and not fit enough.Will be good next year though.
I agree -a lot of injuries across the board for this early in season.

Wow! Taking the word of a player agent? You do know that’s in their job description right? To gas up players/teams. Lol that’s probably the same “leading” player agent that told me the Trans Tasman Super Rugby was going to be extremely close! Look how that’s turning out?
To have your mind made up about who the fittest teams are from trial games is pretty ridiculous. It’s trial games. All teams should be implementing crazy rotations from a pool of about 50 players, trialing different combinations etc. If you can gauge a team/players fitness from a trial game then they’re playing far too many minutes in a TRIAL game. Unless the coaches are trying to make a statement by winning these pointless games. That “statement” obviously worked on you and your “leading player agent” mate..
and let’s be real here, ALL teams are lacking depth!

Nudgee isn't lacking depth, their 2nd xv would comfortably handle the majority of other schools first xv's. The program they run all year round ensures high level of general fitness across a large squad. Young athletes will improve fitness very quickly over the next few weeks and match fitness is very important aspect of that as is allowing some game time in developing combinations in trial games . Not all schools treat trials about rotating players to give everyone a chance for selection. Most coaches at this stage would have a clear idea on preferred starting line ups.

It is really obvious how behind Rugby Union junior development is to Rugby League seeings as no one can access these QLD 1 and 2 teams named from the U18 state carnival at SunnyBank,
Rugby League U18 state carnival the weekend before and the QLD merit teams were made available within the next day via the QSSRL facebook page and the Couriermail.

Hey champ

I did say "at this stage"
1) the agent told me NC and BBC look the two fittest teams at this stage;

As for crazy rotations/50 players ???-
Any coach that dos not know the probable make up of his team -and is looking for combinations is way behind.
NC 1st xv squad now cut to 25-28

I am sure the people that really need to know, know.

Nailed it - that is exactly Rugby's attitude and it is a terrible attitude if you are trying to promote the game and increase interest in and grow the game.

Isn't that what Rep footy is supposed to be about, they should be encouraging people to get along and watch these games - not hide the team lists and act like the games never to took place unless you are in the know!!

no, it's about the players developing themselves. The teams will be released in good time. Whether some anonymous randoms on an internet site know about the teams is really irrelevant.
