If I remember my school days correctly; Tom coached Marist Canberra 15A's during '86-88. We older boys were hoping at the time he would take over the 1st XV, but alas not and we're stuck with a soccer-centric coach who years later rolled his chances with Nudgee 2nd XV.
Tom coached my younger brother in the 15's and his response when questioned was: "he didn't like me much".

So GT ( Barker) and IGS ( Steve Nance) have gone back to the past next year. ( Nance is big loss for BBC )Judging on the past ( Barker=Flatly,Hunt,Cooper) and Nance=( Polla -Mounter,Walters,Carne etc etc)-there will be a lot of RL boys at these schools next year.So GT will have one bus at Sunnybank every morning and one at Wavell High??A lot of whinging at GT about" culture erosion"

I think you'll find the first XV coaches have very little input into which boys are chosen for merit and scholarship positions. Mostly because their time is focused on coaching the first XV, not player recruitment. They have to focus on using what they have to the best of their ability.
Although this belongs in another thread, I really want to address this quickly because every year this forum is filled with stupid generalizations about busing kids from sunnybank or wavell or different places around Brisbane. That is so ridiculous and really has nothing to do with the rugby that is played or the GPS competition IMO.
What I will say about the issue of 'Culture Erosion' is this (before we move it all to another thread)
This whole nonsense of whinging about culture erosion streams from the people in charge of recruitment at the various schools and dropping them into environments they are completely unfamiliar with and they find it hard to fit in. Imagine coming from let's say Wavell High to Terrace as you state. The boy would have to completely change his school focus, time of days, weekend, study habits, sporting commitments, behave in class differently and even travel for long periods of times in most cases. It's an unreasonable expectation and one which often does not have the best interest of the boys in mind

The only reason GT would need to bus anyone in is because they don't have the boarding facilities that most other GPS school do. Bit ridiculous to bring up culture erosion a good 6 months before a season kicks off. Maybe have a look at who is "parked" in your own boarding houses before you bring it up?

Steve Nance is new IGS coach.Has been BBC S&C for last 2 years.Took IGS to a number of premierships in 90s on the back of some future Broncos legends(Walters boys,Willie Carne,etc)

Gee.I did not think we had that many back and 16 A were well beaten by TSS.Our big guns are leaving. TSS have 3,8 and 10 back plus Premiership 16 As. BBC will have the whole backline back will they not ?-plus 13 & 15 from 15 A I would think. 3 horse race me thinks.TSS unbackable.

Well I only see Nudgee as the only team capable of causing an upset against TSS and you'll be playing them on Ross won't you ?

One must never underestimate "The Factory" at Boondall
BBC have a couple new backs ( two outside backs in Open and U16 ) that will make things interesting in the backline that will also have 10, 12 , 11 , 14 , and 15 back . Probably the most interesting battles for spots in the backline will be at 9 and 12.
In the forwards .......obviously Hosea , Van Nek , Prynce , Xavier , Avulli , Ngamanu, and Kibble will be sorely missed and there are some big shoes there to fill which might take some time
The real strength of next year's Open's was always in their backs - two key pieces who were lost the season before last but who have been well and truly replaced with key additions last year and again this year
BBC have the chance to firm up but that will depend on understanding what they have and a vision / right choice of game style that suits what they have . And then being disciplined enough to execute it.

TGS have more imports arriving next year so as to what the makeup and potential will be of the firsts I have no Idea at this stage. If they build a team around this years U16a with a few changes I think they will be very strong as this group have been together for sometime now and were really starting to fire at the back half of this season. There is no changes to the coaching staff for next year so going on previous form I expect that we will see most of these boys ending up in the second's. If that is the case I would have mine money on a top 2 finish for these kids. There fore I expect they will favor there imports for the firsts which could make up the whole team. If that is the case I will put my head on the chopping block and predict a bottom 4 finish. Reason been it is not because I think these kids are bad footballers but they will be a bad fit with some kids playing in positions they shouldn't be and very little cohesion in the team due to lack of combinations that have been built up over time. The coaching staff at grammar have a real tunnel vision problem with the way they want to play the game and there selection criteria which I think is holding them back.
Anyway time will tell as the preseason moves ahead, the boys are apparently touring the USA west coast during the Easter holidays.

BSHS have boys returning 10, 13, 4,, 5, 2, 14, 12 and individually some good 16s/15s if they can get selections right they will give a good return.
