QLD GPS Rugby 2018

Well why not Gary:D, I have spent my whole life following clubs through thick and thin, through various reasons, I an old bugger who never changes sides, so if I get one in a new comp would be nice to have a team with a chance of winning to start with;). I have already pinned my colours to John Paul college for next year, in college 1st 15 comp, they closest to me and son of a young fella I coached in NZ plays there, so we picked Souyhport, not because we thought it was favourite, but alternate turns at transport (we like to have a quick beer after a rugby game)
All good just want to get my gratuitous bandwagon gag in

Yep GPS Navy 19-10 over Gold. Didn't see much of the game but what I did see was very competitive and the pace picked up when mass replacements were made late in the second half.

AIC and CSS was nil all at half time and 10-7 to AIC at FT. The winning try coming with 5 minutes left.

Best for AIC were 15 (probably the man of the match), 4 and 12. Honourable mention to 25 who has great hands.
CSS were very physical and their 5 led the big hits, their 7 was a typical pest and good over the ball and service from their 9 was superior.

Considering the slippery conditions, quality of rugby was very good.

Navy got up 19-10 over Gold .

Quite an even contest, with Navy looking a bit more cohesive and think played better as a team . Plenty of willing contact from both teams . No Carter Gordon for Gold and was missed, Pasitoa from Navy had the better game of the 10s and combined very well with his midfield who both had very good games . Probably made a little easier by the Navy forward pack marginally getting the upper hand.

The wet weather added a little to the error count, but overall the standard was very good considering.

Think the teams in the second game will struggle over the next two days. It was nowhere near the intensity of the first game and full of errors and rolling substitutions. Didn’t seem to have much flow at all. Nil all at half time , missed the full time score.

Good luck to all .

A lot more spilled ball in the 2nd game - players seemed to struggle more in the conditions

Agree that CSS 25 really attracted notice ( I think he’s a kid from Marsden High - Izzy Folau’s old digs ) and CSS 10 really seemed to have his way whenever he wanted it - moreso in the first half

Nothing really seemed to trouble CSS in the backs until LTW got the ball. He really is in a different class to everybody else

Was impressed with AIC 8 - good strong tough game

No Gordon (BBC) at 10 or Paretta (TSS) at 10 leaves big holes in both teams as the NC boy was named at 12.-also I see the top ranked winger from BBC did not play either.'8 from TSS looked big-real big.

Bailey Tautau ( NC ) my forward of the night tonight - was everywhere in the 2nd half - even on a big score line and kept the intensity and work rate up . Good stuff

Louis Maritz ( SPC ) best of the backs

Can't tell you a lot about them other where they are from and position they played.....

Aaron Prosser is a 9 from Churchie , he came off the bench for the GPS Navy team at the Qld trials, as did Alex Davies who plays mostly 2 from Brisbane Grammar.

Thomas Gore played 13 for Combined Schools at the Qld trials , big hard running kid from Downlands College Toowoomba.

Thanks Nomad that was of great help. Most feedback on the Australian Schoolboys Championships thread were surprised how few QLD players were selected in Combined States. Can you shed any light?

No worries, can't really shed any light on why so few from Qld in Combined States.

Would normally expect a few more , plenty of talk up here about a couple of outside backs for AIC that many thought were unlucky to miss out on Qld selection , think most thought they would be in CS , but not the case. One is even from the same school as the coach, so at least no claim of any bias I guess? However not sure who does the selecting.
