The Queensland Red boys justified their front-runner status with a dominant start to the competition, outscoring all competition 150-15 by close of play on day one.
The Cup Quarter-Finals pitted Queensland Red against eventual grand finalists Victoria, where the expansive play of the pool stages couldn’t be replicated.
A 17-14 loss to Victoria was then added to by a 15-14 defeat to ACT in the 3rd/4th playoff, whom Queensland had previously defeated 31-5 on day one.
The Queensland White boys experienced a mixed pool campaign, registering a win against National Indigenous and a draw with Western Australia, before succumbing to both Victoria and New South Wales Blue to end the day.
The 7th/8th playoff gave Queensland White an opportunity to settle the score with Western Australia, which was seized with both hands in a convincing 27-12 victory.[/quote}
