Can't wait to see them try have a go at the nudgee thirds. Massive front rOw and some abnormally large centres.

Yeah I wouldn't want to start a fight with the Nudgee thirds, we played them in round one, one of them got a yellow for stomping (which should have been a red) which was completely unprovoked and after the whistle for a penalty to nudgee - I can imagine fireworks. They are prone to the odd brain snap though, our game plan was to harass them at the rucks all game and frustrate them - i.e. Aus V Ireland. 10 - 5 to them at half time and 20 - 5 FT with two late tries. There big guys don't like it when your a pest at every ruck.

Their outside center was crazy good though, scored a great try from set piece. I'd rate Nudgee or Churchie to come first or second in the Thirds this year.

Thoughts on BBC vs Churchie this weekend?

i predict a first win for the churchie side. Churchie have been hammered this week on this forum after having losses to two of tittle contenders. They still have some very good players and BBC are missing a lot of their key players i don't see BBC winning this one. Churchie by 10+

Two weeks in, and Nudgee looks set to take out the premiership. Churchie has lost its first 2 games, making a premiership at 6 - 2 (at best) unlikely. Toowoomba, having lost a game to Grammar already, is 7 - 1 at best, assuming they beat Nudgee. Ipswich is also undefeated, but just scraped over the line against terrace.

So my question is this: Is there any team in the competition with the potential to beat Nudgee?

This is undoubtably a biased statement, but will Grammar vs Nudgee in round 9 be a Grand Final decider, to see which team will drop a game first?

If we say that Grammar does lose to, say, Churchie and one other school (Ipswich, Southport?), will Toowoomba have the ability to not lose another game this season? and is a three way tie for second likely?

And if Tuttle and a few other key players are injured, does that bring Nudgee down to a level where a strong team like Toowoomba or Grammar could possibly sneak in a win?

Just a few questions on my mind...

Interesting that GT beat NC in the thirds trial...

It looks pretty even right across the board this year in the thirds with these results from rd 1

BBC 5 v NC 20; TGS 17 v ACGS 33; BGS 29 v BSHS 14

And these results from rd 2.

ACGS 17 v NC 17; BSHS 22 d BBC 5; GT 38 d IGS 10; BGS 12 v TGS 12

As a player I'll try and objectively comment on what I have seen

- NC have firepower in the centers and front row.

- BSHS are reasonable across the board, nothing too special here

-BBC have a big pack but fade in 2nd half (see 5 - 10 HT against nudgee and 5 - 0 HT against State)
BBC defense is very good in first half but scrappy in second. Not that much in attack. In the presbyterian spirit a similar style to scotland.

All the other teams I'm making comments based on previous years so it might be outdated:

TSS: Bunch of fighters but have a good attack from set piece and aggressive fly half

Churchie - strong all round, good attack

Toowoomba - Massive full back & a few big guys to see here and there. Somewhat unfit

BGS - Big forward runners

IGS - worst team in the division with no size, not much in attack or defense.

GT - can't remember enough but strong team

I'd predict NC or ACGS to take the gong with TSS BGS TGS BBC BSHS GT all fighting it out for the next spots and IGS to finish last. GT may have beaten NC in a trial game but we will have to see just how good they are when the real deal comes up.

I can't see Nudgee slipping up from here. They have IGS, BGS and TSS all at Ross Oval. Anyone with a concept of history will know that the chances are Nudgee won't be beaten at home. The only question mark I have over them would be round 7 at Toowoomba once the depth starts getting tested.

The race for the minor placings will probably be between the other four, I'd have TSS, TGS and BGS ahead of IGS right now but injuries could change things dramatically. Obviously the wildcard team is Churchie as right now no one is quite sure where they are mentally and if they can pull it all together, if they do, there will be an upset or two, particularly looking at BGS @ Churchie and IGS @ Churchie.

Perhaps forgetting that Nudgee were knocked off at home last year light? Not probable but certainly not impossible for a quality side, eg Toowoomba.

Look gents, the 3rd XV is a ruthless competition none the less. Nudgee have been performing excelently and churchie have shown a big depth. I believe IGS have requested their 3RDXV vs the other schools 5th XV as their team mostly consists of players who just want to play a bit of footy, make a few big hits and score tries but all for fun. In fact, I bet most of them haven't actually played rugby before.

Last weeks outstanding performances in 3rds IGS vs GT go to the players RESHAN NAIR (GT) and LOGAN OBRIEN (IGS). Both players were fair yet deadly. Resh has played well for the start of the season, although coming off the bench he seems to be the 'secret' to winning. Just an overall joy to watch. Logan played a game this week which was far beyond anything anyone could have expected from him. Pin point accurate passes, pilfering and of course perfectly timed yet legal tackles. Well done gents.

On another note, the 3RDXV of TSS are an appauling team. They should be scrapped from the competition for their cheap shots and their love to fight. Last week against IGS, they attempted a cheap shot on superstar centre James Beveridge but came off on the second hand and were dominated by his hulk-like size. (definately taught them a lesson)

But in all seriousness, this weeks 1ST XV Predictions:

ACGS d BBC 10 +
IGS d BSHS 5 -
NC d TSS 12
TGS d GT 20 +

Agree. TGS at home(sept 1) will be a danger game for NC.
The main reason why Nudgee lost to Churchie in the first round(2011) was injuries to Andrew Price, Josh Rigg, and Billy Brittain (BSH trial game the previous week).
Injuries will be a big factor which school wins the premiership this year.
I really like the scenario of NC v BGS premiership decider Sept15 Ross oval.

What a great forum - its been 25 years since I left school and wonderful to look at these threads and see that the passion and rivalries are still strong as ever. Excited about grammar this year after so many years spinning wheels. Can anyone tell me what the atmosphere is like at Northgate compared to the "good ol days" when we used to hang off the veranda at the science block? To me the view and the atmosphere from up there was unparalleled and created the best seat in schoolboy rugby at that time.

I remember it well. Completely different scenario and as Taipan says, injuries were a factor. Toowoomba are a very different team to the Churchie team that won at Ross Oval last year.

Yeah correct, good point. They were some key players that were out and it did cost Nudgee. Come last round you never know, they might be missing some players and Grammar could be in with a shot. Going to be interesting to see how it all pans out.
