Interesting that GT beat NC in the thirds trial.

It looks pretty even right across the board this year in the thirds with these results from rd 1

BBC 5 v NC 20; TGS 17 v ACGS 33; BGS 29 v BSHS 14

And these results from rd 2.

ACGS 17 v NC 17; BSHS 22 d BBC 5; GT 38 d IGS 10; BGS 12 v TGS 12

As a player I'll try and objectively comment on what I have seen

- NC have firepower in the centers and front row.

- BSHS are reasonable across the board, nothing too special here

-BBC have a big pack but fade in 2nd half (see 5 - 10 HT against nudgee and 5 - 0 HT against State)
BBC defense is very good in first half but scrappy in second. Not that much in attack. In the presbyterian spirit a similar style to scotland.

All the other teams I'm making comments based on previous years so it might be outdated:

TSS: Bunch of fighters but have a good attack from set piece and aggressive fly half

Churchie - strong all round, good attack

Toowoomba - Massive full back & a few big guys to see here and there. Somewhat unfit

BGS - Big forward runners

IGS - worst team in the division with no size, not much in attack or defense.

GT - can't remember enough but strong team

I'd predict NC or ACGS to take the gong with TSS BGS TGS BBC BSHS GT all fighting it out for the next spots and IGS to finish last. GT may have beaten NC in a trial game but we will have to see just how good they are when the real deal comes up.
A slight correction to the Round 2 scored board: BBC def BSH 46-15 after leading 18-15 at half time, romping home 6 tries to zip- Sate was lucky BBC didn't put 60+ on them.

What a great forum - its been 25 years since I left school and wonderful to look at these threads and see that the passion and rivalries are still strong as ever. Excited about grammar this year after so many years spinning wheels. Can anyone tell me what the atmosphere is like at Northgate compared to the "good ol days" when we used to hang off the veranda at the science block? To me the view and the atmosphere from up there was unparalleled and created the best seat in schoolboy rugby at that time.
The atmosphere at Northgate is woeful. Fans are atleast 20-30m from the sideline of the field, with a fence or two in the way, completely destroying any chance of an atmosphere. Thats what happens when you design a rugby field to be a cricket pitch

The State High & BGS colloseums are gone. Frightful places to take on those savages. Agree with Red Black - GT, BGS & ACGS are pitiful rugby pitches.

TGS comes close.
As does the new TSS
Jack Ross has a stigma
BBC Miskin St. - Not bad
Windswept BSHS is ok except for the midges

GT last year at Ballymore was good fun - but no rums!!

Whose TC?

In terms of main ovals, Tennyson with the portable stands on the sideline is number 1 for me. Nothing better than a warm, Saturday afternoon on Internationals. Ross is a very close second, if it wasn't for the stands and the proximity to the game it'd be number 1. TGS' bowl creates one of the best natural viewing platforms I've ever seen, and the grass isn't too shabby either. Shame its always freezing cold, but its good enough for third. Miskin St for BBC is fourth, a nice close viewing proximity, but the airiness of the ground loses some of the crowd noise. It's hard to put TSS this far back, but watching from the visitors side invariably means a heap of glare. Other than that, a nice bowl for viewing a usually strong footy side. ACGS main oval has fantastic grass, however any good seating (out of the sun) is too far away from the game. Not bad though. BGS and State High are tied for worst in my books. BGS is too far away and the whole BSHS complex at Carina is subpar to the rest of the competition.

Team lists and predictions for Saturday?
Very interested to see the result from Churchie vs BBC - two sides built largely around recruiting, whose is best?
Grammar with the bye, so the pressure on Nudgee not to stuff up their premiership ambitions.
Terrace vs TGS looks intriguing on paper, with two teams looking to bounce back from disappointing losses (especially GT, who'd really be wanting another crack at Ipswich). However word out of the GT camp is a few injuries, can anyone confirm?

One more thing, does anyone have a squad list of that State High team that beat Grammar 100 something - 0? and if they have been contracted by any super rugby teams. Obviously Sautia has played for reds, but what about Browning and the other stars?

Yes, the BGS Colloseum was by far the best venue to play on and spectate in Brisbane schoolboy rugby. BGS have lost so much by going out to Northgate.

BSHS was similar but I never thought it had the same atmosphere on a consistent basis (because of lack of supporters).

Ross Oval is now the best venue for atmosphere by a long way. Probably gives NC a converted try advantage before the game even starts.

The Churchie field is probably the best turf, but like many of the schoolboy grounds loses atmosphere with its cricket configuration.

Set piece magic

I would say Miskin is pretty darn good... very good surface this season, great hill for old boys, nice away section, stand for supporters right on halfway near touchline, and the nature of the place is that it's technically situated between two hills, which means the noise reverberates off them when there's enough people.

Only problem is the amount of balls that go into the f*****n creek

State High's ground was pretty souless / poor

BGS have lost so much in having to move their ovals to Northgate, my Dad actually went there and didn't send me solely because we live a 45 minute drive from Northgate... It's out past whoop whoop ffs. And it's pretty lacking in atmosphere too

It's always been a wonder to me why BBC has never played home games on Main oval (the one next to Moggil road...) There is a pavillion for all the parents and easy portable seating etc. Then you could grab a great view from in the school itself / up on the concourse going past the oval...

Up from the clock tower you can actually see it like a panning view from suncorp, wouldn't mind that every now and then

Comes back to the fact that the football/soccer was played on Main Oval until this year while all the rugby was played over on Miskin, P&F and the Toowong fields. It'd allowed for spectators to pool during the day rather than constantly shifting from one spot to another.

Main Oval compared to Miskin is an awkward viewing oval as you only really have the one set of permanent seats ie the Pavilion where both sets of spectators would have to sit. Having all the portable seating isn't such a great thing and if it's kept there too long you're going to kill the grass. Whereas, Miskin separates the spectators with plenty of fixed seating.

I am 5 from 8 thus far so hopefully these predictions are quite accurate

Predictions
Ippy def state high 20+
Churchie def college 10+
Toowoomba def terrace 10+
Nudgee def southport 5+

I think that the game to be out this week will be nudgee verse southport. Both teams have great size in the forward packs and have player/s in their back line that could easily alter the outcome of the game. I am tipping Nudgee to win because they have the better pack.

Well looks like I was 2/4 for round 1 but I'm going to have a crack at round 2 now
Nudgee d ACGS by 5
BGS d TGS by 2
BBC d State high by 14
GT d IGS by 5
TSS with the bye
3/4 for round 2 which makes me 5/8 for the season thus far.
Nudgee d TSS by 5
ACGS d BBC by 2
IGS d BSHS by 30+
TGS d GT by 2 (Sorry boys)

BBC updates for Round 3:
I think Breadon Hood (Captain and 7) is out sick.
Ned Heathcote to go from 6 to 7, he'll cover that well.
Luke Peterson from 4 to 6, no probs there, he's was QLD u15 no. 6 in 2011.
Harrison Mann back to 4 or 5 after being sick last week.
Junior Fakaosilea stays at 12 replacing Conrad Quick who is out for another month, Jnr did a great job at 12 last week, certainly gives the other back line reason to think and one of the main reasons BBC scored 6 tries against State High, they hard to mark Jnr!.
Bronson Tauakipulu to 8, no probs there, QLD u15 no. 8 in 2011.
BBC showing some depth in the forwards while stiffening up the back-line with Jnr.
BUT ... I'm expected Churchie to be desperate for a win.
