State High will struggle this year if that's the best they can do against a side like Grammar. Toowoomba beating Churchie would have to surprise a few, that being said the score reflects a close game between two title contenders. Perhaps a few of us underestimated Toowoomba, Churchie face an uphill battle for the premiership with Nudgee next weekend.

1 round down, 8 to go.
light, a 63-10 win over state high by grammar deserves more justice than branding them "a side like grammar" you've labelled them mid to bottom of the table but oh you will be wrong

its incredible to think of the change that has occured in 3 years. 3 years ago if you had told me that a grammar 1st XV had beaten State high by 50 points, and toowoomba had beaten churchie, i would have laughed and congratulated you on a successful joke. nowadays, who knows what is going to happen this season. Can't wait for next when they play each other.

How the tide has turned from that 103-0 thrashing a few years ago

True indeed. Kudos goes to BGS for a resounding win. The BGS principle in his after game remarks was gracious in the win stating "we haven't won against BSHS in like a century" and praised the losing side. No doubt there will be no shortage of BGS subscribers applauding their players ... and deservedly so. I will reserve as a mark of respect for BGS supporters to comment on their own players. Congratulations BGS.

BSHS capitulated just before the end of the first half when the game looked to be a tight affair. BGS took command of the field in the second half in every facet of the game in both forward and back play. While the loss is significant several promising factors in the BSHS team shone through that bodes well for a basis of success in forthcoming games. But that will only be exploited if the BSHS staff has the fortitude and the maturity to capitalise on it.

Indeed there are some that believe BSHS does not have the players to launch a serious threat to any GPS opposition this year. On the basis of this game they may very well be correct. But for me it is a matter of philosophy rather than talent pool. In other words, this is what we've got, lets see what we can get out of what we have. A change in philosophy is sometimes all it takes to make worthy of the unworthy (figuratively speaking).

This is what we have; the work rate of numbers 5,7 & 8 and the loss to injury of their big-man in the forwards should not go unnoticed. With little positives to draw upon and much criticism to endure, BSHS would do well to revitalise perceived strengths and look to the next game to implement and instill confidence in the pack. Clearly the tide turned for BSHS when the red headed power-broker got hurt, Who knows? maybe it would not have changed the result? but I think some self-belief in some team members went on the sideline with the big man. Only the players in their own self analysis could say.

A huge number (by my reckoning) of ball carries and tackles, particularly by #'s 5, 7 and 8 in the absence of their key power-broker on the sideline; the pick and drive and the clear-out was superb by these players but was just as quickly wasted or undone by uninspired play behind the breakdown. Obviously their tackle count was enhanced by the "forward foot" gameplay of the opposition. Still no mean feat win or lose. The key is for BSHS to build gameplay around this strength. Certainly 5,7 & 8 could not be everywhere on the field to cover the numerous short-comings and errors displayed in the backfield and their propensity to gift the ball to BGS intensified the implosion. In fairness it should also be said BGS placed significant pressure on BSHS to cause such errors and I take nothing away from BGS's superb attitude in the game. Good clean rugby by BGS was a plasure to witness.

everyone seems to be underestimating the BGS side.....they have alot of talent and could pull off a few upsets this season.......expecting 4th place

I agree with you on the fact that BGS have always been an "underestimated team", however I don't think that they will secure a 4th place. They will lose to the big 3 (Nudgee, Churchie and TSS) and possible loss to TGS considering they have the largest amount of Queensland Schoolboys for this year. Also GT and BBC will give the Grammar Firsts a run for their money. They have good players, but even with their smashing against State High they will need to step up to the plate to get even top 5.

What teams will GT beat this year?
Well as we saw in the trials against BBC, GT beat them comfortably. Their Trial against nudgee college was a decent effort and a great improvement from their last place for the premiership in 2011 season. I hear that today they defeated downlands with ease. But they aren't going to beat more promising teams like Nudgee, Churchie and TSS. They will also lose to TGS and probably Ippy Grammar aswell. So I think they will beat BBC, State High and possibly Grammar if they play well. Most likely will come 6th for the premiership this year in my opinion. They have improved but still not good enough to make top 5

it is only uphill for BGS's rugby program.........wouldn't surprise me if we saw a 1st XV premiership to them in 3 years time....the younger grades A's are commonly placing 3rd or above

Yeah i can agree with that, I hear that their 15A's have improved heaps and are in the top 3 for the 15's age group. However then again theres nudgee college 15's who have been like underfeated since grade 8. But yeah i can agree that they have been going uphill since they made some improvements to their rugby program this year...

Grammar played very well today and State High were pathetic. The State High #8 was clearly their best. He contested the ball all game and didn't stop. The #13 was a liability. He was penalised twice at critical times and threw two intecept passes for BGS. He looks like nothing but a clueless leaguey. For the windy conditions BSHS played the wrong game plan and after plan A, well, there was no plan. The #10 went off and the second half was a shambles. The #17 was clearly another leaguey who received the ball static and created nothing. The #1 you rave about did nothing significant to boost BSHS. The #19 came on giving away two critical penalties proving why he plays 2nd XV.
Grammar mid field was excellent. #10 was impressive too. The impressive thing from Grammar was they put the foot on the throat to the final whistle.
Grammar v TGS will be interesting next week.

Uh, please it's been one round. Do we need reminding of last years round 1 results before writting teams off?

Or perhaps we all need reminding how Grammar's season went last year after such a promising start.. 8 games to go lads, let's wait a little longer.

It's sad how short your memories are..I recall reading not so long ago that the premiership team would be lucky to go undefeated. Just because Nudgee lost last year in round one did not end their season hopes, Churchie lost to Ipswich and TSS were well off the pace. It's early to start speculating but I won't be jumping on the Grammar bandwagon after one result against a clearly weak State High.

BBC were solid in going down to nc - BBC scrum dominated in the first half and they lost 2 balls over the Nudgee try line, nudgee scored off a chargedown to skip clear. BBC will trouble the frontrunners this yr

Everything about the BGS game has pretty much been said but I would like to add some other things.

BGS were down 10-8 and I'm sure some of that could have been attributed to nerves, but if they play their first 20 minutes like that against the likes of Nudgee, Churchie and TGS, they will get 20+ points put on them. That being said, they really were sublime after that against a fairly ordinary State High outfit.

BGS 8. (Cornelson I think) was very good with some damaging runs, as well as asserting his dominance in the lineout later on in the game.
BGS 11. (Radford?) Scored three tries and for what he lacked in defence, he easily made up for in freakish acceleration and attacking prowess.
BGS 13. I thought he was the best player and I hadn't seen him before. Great in defence and got over the advantage on every run. Probably butchered an opportunity for Radford's fourth but that's the only fault I can remember.

BSHS 5 and 8. Very impressive in an otherwise unimpressive pack. Both worked their hearts out all day and unfortunately weren't supported barring the first 20 minutes.
BSHS 10. Had a good go in the first half then was taken off for some reason. Goal kicked well in windy conditions.

Additionally, BGS. 10 Directed the play very well, provides great service for his potent centre pairing. I think it may be Greene, if so, his goalkicking was not as well as it was last year - albeit tough conditions.

BGS 14. looked like he wouldn't have tipped the scales at much over 65, and he looked very young - year 10 or 11? However, he had amazing speed and creativity as well as defending far above his weight, and is one to watch for the future.

State High 7. also worked fairly hard to little avail.
State High 15. Has a good skill set and successfully got under the skin of some BGS players with his actions behind play, etc.

Disappointing to see a team that are going to cop some more 50 point losses this season.

TGS vs BGS will be a good gauge on how BGS really are this season.

Fair enough call. Nudgie 28 BBC 14 - both teams made incisive runs though the backs with Nudgie ahead on points there, Tuttle was impressive. The forwards were pretty even, BBC let the pressure off Nudgie a few times. Nudgie came out firing in the second half and it looked like they would pile on the points, but BBC regrouped with a few key turnovers at the breakdown- strong in the forwards and not just their big names. Like you say, BBC lost the ball twice over Nudgie's line, plus I think the video will show BBC got the ball down another time from a forward drive but were only given a 5m scrum. The game could have gone either way but Nudgie were strong enough on the day
