Anyone know why Mr Jones and the chaplain left TSS for Churchie? Heard he (Jones) had a difference of opinion with the sportsmaster there.

I do not believe there was any difference of opinion at all. Jonesy had wanted to move to Brisbane for a while and I suspect he would have loved the chance to team up with Gary Nucifora.
As for Fthr Gadd I have no idea other than it is closer to the diosese centre.
Obviously a career move.
I always thought you Gold Coast blokes al3ays believed that the Gold Coast was the centre of the universe, created by God, that Jesus was born on the main oval at TSS, and ascended into heaven near where the TSS Chapel was built (2000 years later).

TSS v Churchie
This was a very good arm wrestle for most of the first half. Both sides understandably nervous with this being such a big game with consequences and being the first of the GPS comp.
Churchie drew first blood with a penalty goal but really didn’t look like getting five pointer at all in the first have except for a brief period on the TSS line.
TSS eventually scored through a great backline move with Crook touching down in the right corner. Sam Cox converted for a 7 – 3 lead and this was the score at the break.
Second half was a real full on game, TSS gaining territory through good backline play and astute kicks only to have Churchie come back. Eventually TSS scored through great forward pressure with Will Slipper crossing and again Cox converted. Slipper is getting better and better each week.
Churchie hit back with a great try from and conversion by Taufu. Score 17 – 10 to TSS with 12 to go.
Another great play by this very slick TSS backline saw Crook cross for his second meat pie and the final score was 24 – 10 to TSS.
A great game, some very good running rugby from both teams. This is a very good TSS team and held out very determined Churchie pressure on their line for the final 5 minutes.

Re: GPS Queensland

Thanks for that report - looks like Crook is on his game. He's pretty quick isn't he? Tell me whispers - this is not yet another Queensland schools winger that is going to run rings around the other teams in the national schools comp. Not another one. Tell me it ain't so whispers; tell me it ain't so.

What is your best guess as to the top 3 in GPS this year at this stage?

I was at the BSHS v BBC match (won 49-5). State High don't look as complete an outfit as they were last year but way too good for College. Chris Sautia was a dominant player yesterday at outside centre. Didn't see Joel Faulkner but I gather he's sitting out a suspension from last year, like a couple of the BBC players. Curtis Browning at No. 8 was destructive and their front rowers are pretty big lads - plenty of go-forward.

lance, lance, lance,
Joel left school last year.
last week the BSHS centres were Walter and Chris.
Chris was very potent last week.

What's next weeks matches, I'm currently tempted for the Curtain Raiser of the Reds game of BBC and TSS, after BBC got a thrashing yesterday, I might sit it out. Were BBC just bad, or did Chris Sautia just eliminate the opposition?

Excellent, the TSS vs Nudgee clash is where I'll be heading, near where I live as well (well not too close, compared to the others at least. Should be a big game, I think TSS will over power NC.

I thought that Faulkner was doing Yrs 11 & 12 over 3 years - guess the last of those must have been 2009 then? One of their supporters told me that two of their players were out due to suspension (I had assumed F was one of those).

Walter Petaia also had a really good game. He scored a number of their tries. Yeah, Sautia went off injured. He's normally a winger isn't he - wasn't aware that he also played in the centres?

Chief - I wouldn't be bothering with the Churchie v BBC match. Churchie should win it in a canter. BBC were quite poor on Saturday. They'll get a couple of their better players back from suspension this weekend but have lost others with injury. It's going to be a tough year for them.

Re: GPS Queensland

sautia was originally a centre and he prefers to play there. I think he is very potent at 13 and he had some great impacts last week against TSS.

Yeah Chief
NC seems like the place to be this weekend. Great venue and hopefully equal spectacle. NC and BSHS are now the schools who are very capable of beating TSS and suppose who wants it more on Saturday. NC always a 10 point better side at home and reckon the first 10minutes will determine who gets on top for rest of match.

Hear tell that TSS have beaten NC a couple of times already in 2010 but boy, they better not be complacent because the young "filth" will otherwise belt them.

I'm heading down to the match of the round at Nudgee too this week. It'll be standing room only with whats on the line in the main game. The massive Nudgee forward pack taking on the slick Southport backline. Might even have a trot around in one of the games myself. The weather's beaut and the rugby's played with passion, so what better place to be?

With 3 gun sides this year and such a short season, its about time the GPS comp officials got with the times and switched to the Super14 points system. No more 2 or 3 teams sharing the title. It gives the lower teams something to play for - even if its just holding out that 4th try against.

Even better, have the top 2 play off for the tiltle at season's end at Ballymore. Then you'd see a crowd.

How big are these massive Nudgee forwards - don't worry about them taking on the so-called slick TSS backline - if they get over the top of the forwards the TSS backline will be puit under pressure, drop ball, miss tackles and fail miserably. It will only be if the forward clash is even or better than even then the potential of either respective backline becomes realisable
