QLD Colts - 2016

Just downloaded and watched the game. Definitely a game of 2 halves, it makes a difference when delivery from the scrum is quick and smooth. Welcome back Harry (20).
Lots of unforced errors and tackles above the waist. Brothers #11 had a decent game as well as 10.
Bond backline need to look at passing/offloading to players in space. There were 2/3 occasions that unmarked players outside could have scored if the ball had been passed, too much NRL type play.

Was a game of two halves indeed and with completely different styles to boot. The errors mainly came from quick line-speed from both teams, however the Brothers line-outs was also a main source of errors.

With the Bond back line, it seems to be the flow (for lack of a better word) between the 12 and 13 maybe? However the other problem mentioned before is the real danger for Bond. For Brothers, well back to the drawing board: all the close losses are however "pissing" them off, which means the pressure is building, a good sign. They took most of the opportunities given to them.

Thought a bit unlucky on both yellow cards; The first a yellow card for a "lifting" tackle, wasn't dangerous for mine. For mine, I think referee's need to be a bit more discerning when calling this. To me and only my opinion, if a player is lifted and put on his back or butt, not much danger, a great tackle in the olden days!; if he is tipped onto his shoulder or neck or head, then much danger. The first is "play on", the second is a yellow. I think that referees need to differentiate.

The second, an infringement at the break-down (#4) whilst Bond attacking. Well the infringement was fairly bad, but not a bad sportsmanship type, if you know what I mean. The ruck was made up of 4 people (one which was on the ground) and was loose; the ball presented to the player, whom picked it up, WRONG, I know. Only infringement made, yellow card! Bond did the same thing as well, twice, and I think from memory no card, interesting. The ref, other than that (and a few knock-on's), had a reasonable game.

I didn't get out to any games at the weekend but I hear Wests and Easts were very sharp. On the rugbylink it looks like half a dozen returnees for Wests from the week before so that may explain the loss to Jeeps. Game of the round this week could be Brothers v Wests.
Easts and Wests may dwell on what might have been this year for that 4th slot.
Uni making a lovely timed run for those heady days in late July...another day out with the brethren at Ballymore beckons in a minor Semi which will be a big challenge as always.

Went to Brothers training tonight. They were worked hard, as a few of them needed a few hard yards. Positive feel after the weekend loss. A great gauge for the semi's.

Prediction the scrum won't be as easily pushed around in the potential match of the round this weekend Wests v Brothers.

GPS at home vs Norths​

​

The battle of the wooden spoon at Yoku Road. Have been cheering on GPS for a while now; now's the time to put my money where my mouth is! GPS have improved over the year and are now providing more than a "speed-bump" for teams in the comp. Earlier in the season there were a lot of naughts next to their name, nowadays there is always a try or two.​

Norths on the other hand have had the exact opposite; more naughts now than scores. The UQ defeat will still be weighing on their minds despite a good effort against The Bank last week. Last time out Norths won by 2, however Jeeps have the numbers!​

Souths at home vs Easts​

​

A "coulda, woulda, shouda" year for Souths. Plenty of hope, plenty of promise, but no cigar. The second half of the season has had a small payout for them. Their solace, the two times beating of Brothers and topping of competition leaders Bond; a good achievement. However there form is waning, like the top weight on a heavy 10 track. This will be for pride and last hooray in front of their home crowd. ​

Easts however, have everything to play for and they require 5 points from this game to keep the dream alive. They have been very consistent and are in line for the BP award (quite achievers). If all the troops are on the field then the fairy tale will survive. ​

The Bank at home vs UQ​

The "scoring machine" has lost a few cogs lately and if were a betting man I would be "laying off" their hopes for premiership glory. Have been luke warm since the Brothers match in Round 12. Hopefully some of the cogs are returning because they will need them for this "pre-semi" taster.​

UQ on the other hand have been making their "pitch" for the crown. Over the year one can't help but admire their structure and skill and we should have known that a 95 point score was just around the corner. With Hunt, Meni and other u20 reps back, it will be quite a task for anyone in the competition to pull them back. However, did the short spell make them lose the magic? I say no.

Last time out The Bank spanked UQ by 16 points. UQ will put these ponies back into the stall. Match of the Round (though I don't think the score will show it).​

Wests at home Vs Brothers​

​

The other keenly watch "second match of the round". Wests have not been as consistent as in the first round, but the win last week against Souths showed that they have a few more upsets left in their armory. I think they have been showing signs of "tiredness" as the season and the workload of their forwards takes it's tole. ​

​

Brothers last week had a good "sighter" on where they need to be for the potential finals. They have been showing signs of their earlier year form, but have lacked that killer instinct. With last weeks #10 & #13 out, there is some good news that they will have back 3-4 of their forwards. I don't expect their scrum to come under as much pressure as the previous game against Wests. Line-out were poor again last night and this needs to be fixed!​

Battle of the wooden spoon. GPS can make name for themselves here if they can beat Norths and hope that Norths loose to Souths (which is not impossible given Norths have had 3 eggs in the last 5 games) in the final round they would avoid picking up the last prize.

This could go either way given both teams have had a few wins and a few close losses in the last 5/6 rounds. For Easts it’s not counting how many rounds left but making the rounds left count. They need two 5 point wins and hope the Brethren slip on the proverbial banana to clinch an invitation to Ballymore. Good luck to Both.

UQ cannot jockey for position anymore and are stuck with 3rd place however a win here would have a psychological advantage if the semis are 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.

Interestingly first time round it was a 23-19 win to Wests, can they replicate the performance at home? We shall see. Sage I think it will be closer than you think. Let’s keep the final round interesting.

Greetings and salutations from the City of Criminals..... Yeeeeessss thats right. Phatmik is in Sydney freezing his squirrels off at the National Schoolboys..

From the outset I wish to confess that I am not enjoying this forum anymore as I have had two 4/4 weeks and the pressure of this week is keeping me awake. Coupled with watching the capitulation of Qld on Monday I am now a mess. Glad the kids bounced back today though....
