Qantas Wallabies utility back Kurtley Beale has been fined $5000 by Australian Rugby Union over an off-field indiscretion in Brisbane.

Hours after the Wallabies beat Ireland on June 26 in the final Test of last month’s four-game international campaign, Beale relieved himself in a public area outside a nightclub.

Admitting he had also consumed excessive alcohol on the night, Beale said today he is determined to learn from an incident which brought embarrassment to him and the game.

“I’m aware of the need to always be mindful of the responsibility I have when representing my country,” he said.

“However, it is also important I take responsibility for my actions regardless of whether it’s in or out of season or where I am at any given time.

“I have to take personal ownership for how I behave in public and I want to apologise to all those people I have let down on this occasion.

“I just want to put this behind me now and hopefully concentrate on helping the Wallabies in the upcoming Tri Nations.”

ARU High Performance Unit General Manager David Nucifora said Beale’s actions on the night were disappointing.

“We sat down with Kurtley today and explained to him that we cannot excuse players from such behaviour,” Nucifora said.

“There are structured programs in place for all our players to take advantage of where required so those opportunities are there for Kurtley, and others as well.

“While he has been fined, Kurtley remains in selection contention for the Tri Nations campaign.”

The Qantas Wallabies squad for the Tri Nations will be announced on Thursday.

Shits me that this is even a crime. I'd love to hear more about the structured programs that Nuci has put in place for all our players to take advantage of where required, would this be some sort of portaloo on a trailer?

Fair point Lee, they don't say that it was behind a tree. In my book if you make an effort to a) find a toilet, and b) be discrete then there is no crime.

If somebody is caught short no problem if they at least try to be discreet. Be buggered if I'll excuse some prick pissing in front of my children and/or missus, or what happened to a friend the other day in the doorway of her shop (it was closed and at night but what about her customer the next day). There is no excuse for those too lazy to at least try and find an out of the way place and be considerate of other people.

No, I haven't pissed behind a tree at a work function. I don't think I would even if it was golf.

But otherwise, plenty.

+1. My son and I have a weekly routine. Anyone who says pissing in the garden is wrong should come look at my lemon tree. And maybe try some homemade lemon and lime brule.... :)

Grandad always said it was natures way of killing the white aints.

Nothing wrong with it but just be discrete as possible. Consider it as doing your bit for the environment as there is nothing to flush.

Fuck, the Mungos will really want him now

I've pissed, chundered, snotted and bled, but at this stage still haven't taken a dump in public - that's because I've got manners.

The only thing missing there Gagger is being busted playing a bit of public hide the sausage. Apart from that, with your obvious manners clearly you could be a poster boy for the Family First or Christian Democratic party....

Well in Africa we dont have a any problem with this, we call it "veld brand steek" Always thought Beale have a bit of Africa in him, the soccer lot do it in the WC on the field so maybe a mixture of poofball and Africa coming through.

Once they're paid to do what they do, including by sponsors who want their reputation enhanced by the affiliation, they're no longer subject to the same rules as the rest of us.

It is also better for the environment. You are using less water than if you head to the toilet.

Obvious question to the picture above: Why would diveball players spend so much time rolling around on the ground pretending to be hurt when some bloke has probably pissed there at some stage? Surely that is an incentive to stay on your feet for gawds sake....!
