Queensland A on again tomorrow night at Ballymore, 6pm KO
Any word if it's the same team? Any injuries in the reds which will require player movement? Is Simmons hand okay? No word on the Reds website in regards to the game.
Queensland A has scored their second consecutive Pacific Rugby Cup success with a commanding 23-8 victory over Tonga A at Ballymore on Thursday night. Both teams entered the encounter with an attacking mindset with the sideline-to-sideline affair suiting the Queenslanders in the opening half as they shot out to a 10-0 lead before defending bravely to hold out the fast-finishing Tongans.Tonga A looked certain to pull within a try late in the match although it was Queensland A captain Dallan Murphy who pulled off a magical try-saving tackle which allowed the home side to maintain their 13-3 buffer and close out the game. The tackle by Murphy came after Tonga scooped up a loose ball from the scrum and provided a spark for Queensland A which resulted in two late-game tries to blindside flanker Curtis Browning and centre Nathaniel Gendle.Murphy was a standout for the Reds, adding two penalties and a conversion to finish with an eight point personal tally, while Gendle, scrumhalf Nick Frisby and lock Tim Buchanan also produced strong performances. The only downside to come from the encounter was injuries sustained to St.George Queensland Reds centre Chris F’Sautia, winger Mitchell Felsman and prop Ruan Smith.F’Sautia looked menacing in the opening stages of the match before being forced from the field after pulling up lame midway through a damaging run.Queensland A has now scored two straight wins after overcoming Fiji A 36-24 last Sunday and will be full of confidence heading into next Monday’s final PRC encounter against Samoa A (kickoff 6:40pm).“We made huge improvements from our first game. We had a couple of sessions together in the lead-up to tonight and we’re really happy with the result,” Murphy said.“We now want to go three from three when we turn out again on Monday.”The contest was evenly matched in the opening stages with both teams showing a willingness to attack however it was the Queenslanders who struck first with Murphy kicking his side ahead 3-0 before vice-captain Tim Buchanan proved too strong close to the line to extend the margin to 10 points. The Fijians enjoyed their best attacking opportunity of the opening 40 minutes when centre Otulea Katoa went streaking down the right touchline and looked destined to score before a desperate try-saving tackle by fullback Damon Murphy ensured the visitors remained on zero heading into the sheds.Katoa struck first for the Tongans in the second half with a penalty goal in the opening five minutes bringing the score to 13-3.Browning and Gendle crossed in the final 10 minutes to cap off a strong win although Tonga battled bravely to finish with a try on the final siren to flanker Samiu Vea.Queensland A 23 (Tim Buchanan, Curtis Browning, Nathaniel Gendle tries, Dallan Murphy cons, 2 pens) def Tonga A 8 (Samiu Vea try, Otulea Katoa pen)ENDS
