Oh god -- no! Yes, he's a great rugby player.no question, but he constantly niggles, irritates and is the one rugby player I would most like to punch in the mouth.

He plays the game hard which is the way it should be played. And I don't have a problem with a bit of niggle - depends on the niggle really. Off the field he comes across as a really top bloke to me. And I struggle to see how you would want to punch him in the mouth more than Chris Ashton! :D

I think at times, particularly when he was a little bit younger, he had a tendency to get involved in little scuffles off the ball and it would lead to him losing focus on the game for short periods. As he is taking on more responsibility within the Sharks and Bok teams he seems to be improving in this aspect and hopefully that continues.

He is certainly not one to take a backwards step though and because of this he may be seen by opposition players as someone who could possibly be distracted from his game relatively easily.

He only niggles when he play SA teams. Bliksem.

When Bismarck and I were growing up on the farm we used to play this game that we called “Broer trust”.
Bismarck would stand in front of me with his eyes closed and fall backwards, where I would catch him in my arms just before he hit the ground.
When it came my turn to fall Bismarck, without fail, would let me drop. He would crack up laughing and say things like “Jannie you dick, you trusted me again, who’s the clever brother now hey?!”
I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t hurt, both physically and emotionally, but you know what, I decided that the joy Bismarck got from seeing me writhe in pain on the ground was worth a bruised back (and ego).
I trust that this story from our past will shed some light onto your situation.
Good luck Broken Man!
Dr Jannie.

For literally one good game? Name a game he played well in besides the Tahs one. Bloke is absolutely anonymous most of the time.
Um apart from scoring 6 tries in the season, averaging 3 tackle busts, 1 linebreak, 65m gained (with 6 runs average a game, so 11m per run) and 10 tackles a game?
By the way, Conrad Smith only averaged 2 tackle busts a game, 0.5 linebreaks a game, and 43m gained per game

I think Fruean's problem against say, someone like Smith is that Fruean does well against teams like this years Tahs, while Smith gets better as games get tougher. A good example of the limitations of stats.

You pick a 1 at 3.

Then that pick at 13? Seriously. No. Thrn a guy who played 10 all season before injury at 12. No. And a 7 at 8. Some more no. Who the fark is Dan Coles? Noooooo.

Lots of no there. No no no no no.

Freaun is great in space against lesser teams. He is still to consistently shine against better defenses. I think he will, but he hasn't yet.

Had been seeing all the talk about this guy all year but have hardly had a chance to watch the Stormers. Have to say i was very impressed with what i saw in the semi.

Whaaat? Pietersen has been the standout winger of the comp, and has been brilliant in the last six weeks.
.

He's been good and would also back him but look at Speight's stats. Speight would have been better again had Lealiifano not been injured :(

Bear in mind it was an "achievement above expectation" team. If your comments still stand regardless of this, then I'd like to hear of a number 13 who played above and beyond what was expected of him. And as for Leleaiifano at 12, I put him there because both him and Goosen played very well this season, and couldn't just not have them in a team. Same goes for Liam Gill at 8. Hard to seperate him and Hooper
