Bruce, I couldn't think of a better bloke to have beside you in the trenches than Phil Waugh.

Have I made the appropriate correction, Ruggo?

My only concern about being alongside Phil in the trenches is that, with Howitzer shells whistling overhead and the enemy machine gunners having a clear line of sight, the bastard would prod you with his bayonet and insist you join him in a charge across no man's land.

Phil is one tough hombre, of that there can be no doubt. A great leader too. We've been pretty blessed to have had three true quality opensides in Aussie rugby over the past few years and I would look at including Waugh in the squad as cover for Bam. However, Pocock is the starter when fit, no question.

I have to ask when hasn't Oz had a World Class 7 since 1980? Other aspects of the pack have been missing but there has always been a top drawer 7.

1980 - 1991 - Simon Poidevin
1992 - 2000 - David Wilson
2000 - 2009 - George Smith
2000 - current Phil Waugh
2010 - Current David Pocock

and now the myriad of new comers to continue the production line.

Waugh played with a torn hamstring in a final, holy shit thats tough, the guy is a monster and always reminds me of that orc from Lord of the rings.

I thought I was hardcore when I finished a match with a broken collarbone, its surprising how many tackles you can make grabbing someones collar and sort of hopping on their back. I think quade should try it sometime

Can any of the Red's fans confirm whether the inury to Quirk will open the bench for Liam Gill?

I am going to say this being a Reds fan but it's true. You can throw Crofty on that list also.

God bless Phil Waugh. I'll tell you what, In a game littered full of gel, puppy dogs, hairstyles and tweets they seldom make them like him anymore. Hope he comes through training ok today and lines up against the Crusaders. Last of a dying breed, dead-set trojan.

Quite correct. In the last 30 years, we've produced a stream of back rowers of the highest quality. Only NZ has equalled or surpassed in that area IMHO.

I would also point out that we've generally had the same at lock as well.
