Have to say young Jodie Barrett looked pretty composed under the pressure of the game , bodes well for him in a few years having the temperament to step up a level or two.

If Cruden is in fact off to France I'd take him on the EOYT, even if only in the "apprenticeship" role they gave Ardie a coupla years ago.

Not sure I push him that quick WOB, any boy named Jodie gotta have a couple of extra years to harden up;)

Another drought broken & emphatically so: Taniwha 48-27 Mooloos, their first win after 19 straight losses. Mooloos have gone from Shield holders & Prem SF contenders to Shield-less & in danger of relegation inside 10 days.

Cantabs meanwhile held on 39-34 v 'naki & are now well on top of the Prem. All going well @Ozee's Round wrap should be up tomorrow or Tuesday.

Logan Crowley promoted from U19's to replace Alby Mathewson.

Article says "Taranaki-born" so I'm guessing he's in some way related to Kieran?

Meanwhile Cantab fan Doreen Searle turned 95 on Saturday so CEO Hamish Riach went to see her yesterday & took the Shield with him (as you do):

Also a copy of DC's award-winning bio with a "thank you" note. Nice.

Week 7 wrap is on the blog:

http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/mitre-10-cup-2016-week-7-wrap/#disqus_thread

Seems the Super Rugby coaches have had a meeting & aren't enthused by the breakdown ELV: I've never thought there was any chance of the English, French, or Celtic leagues adopting them (much less the Six Nations adopting them & supporting their extension to all international rugby) so if the Super Rugby coaches don't like them I reckon they need to be ditched before the players forget the proper rules.

Cracking game this afternoon, Manawatu spanking Wellington 50-28. Quality game to watch, like most Mitre 10 cup games.

Crossed my mind, with such a short off season before the Super season kicks off again, there is a whole new style of play and skillset that the ELV's have created and I wondered how difficult they would be to 'unlearn'.

I like the impact overall on the game, keeping players on their feet has been a huge positive IMO, but the flailing boots is sure to end in tears somewhere.

You right there galumay, that was a good game to watch, I always enjoy when an underdog team gets stuck in like that!! Sometimes when you have young teams playing the players just forget the other team is supposed to win, and Manawatu was a good case, once they got in front and their tails were up they never looked like they were going to let "Big Brother" from down the road a look in! By geez some good skills on disply again.

The Shield will be safely locked away in the CRFU trophy cabinet for the summer & by my reckoning Cantabs have an uncatchable lead in the Premiership. Harbour gave it a red-hot go for ~50 minutes then got steamrolled.

Also, check out David Havili's 60m monster that helped put Auckland away, Tasman's maiden win at Eden Park:

I'd put up a vid of the Wellington Pussycats' humiliation by Manawatu but that would just be cruel :)

Oh, alright then, here it is:

Jack Goodhue. He's had a very good Mitre 10 campaign. Strong, direct runner with a bit of distribution skill.

Looks ok doesn't he? His twin (Ithink) brother is a lock for another mitre 10 cup team, I will remember later who. They were both in NZ U20s lat year.
Can see Jack getting a run at super level in next year or two.

^^^^^^^ twin brother Josh plays for Northland & will be a Blue next year. Jack was with the Crusaders WTG as a medical replacement (for Fruean, I think) & I'd expect him to be in the main squad next year, unless the Horrorcanes poach him too, of course :) There's also an older brother, Cameron who played for Northland & Blues then went to Worcester & London Welsh.

All from wiki so probably accurate..........

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get a run. There are players with less skill running around in Super Rugby.

Appears the mighty Nua are starting to need results to go their way to get their deserved spot in the finals.
Would quietly like to think that many on the Gagger bored will be supporting the Nua boys as we donate ANOTHER Nua boy into the Wallabies team;):D
I mean Joe Tomane goes and so up steps Leroy Houston, not sure if we can keep doing this huh WOB??

^^^^^^^^^ Punching above our weight for sure (even if it's only the Wobblies :)) so, yes, it's the clear duty of each & every otherwise neutral G&GR member to adopt 'nua as their official Heartland Championship team.

My quick & dirty maths says we're 8th & will need to either beat Wanganui (yeah, right) or hope West Coast knock North Otago over in order to make the Lochore Cup semi.

I missed the first half of Otago v Counties, was anything said as to why so many of the Otago guys have big squares of tape under their right ears? Looks very odd.

79th minutes gone, and leading 14-13, an Otago player effects what would've been a match winning turnover under the regular laws, but gets penalised under these silly laws, and costs Otago the game.

Whoever drafted these experimental laws clearly didn't like opensides.

Yup, Jordan Taufua wearing 7 for Counties? WTF? Breakdown ELV gotta go & NOT be introduced to Super Rugby: no way the NH will adopt them & there's no point playing Super Rugby under one set of rules & Test footy under another.
