Battle of the Bays was a doozy:

Magpies have now opened up a seven-point lead over Otago in the Championship & must be odds-on to be top qualifier.

So bloody Waikato won the Shield!!! That was a real good shield game I thought, and no way did I see that result happening! Great to see how much winning Ranfurly Shield still means to players!

Niko, son of Michael, put in a decent shift to help St Peters win the national title.

Should be lining up for Auckland next season.

.Love seeing young players coming through like this, isn't there some serious skill wiyh a couple of other kids there too. Think he maybe a few years away from Auckland just yet, perhaps a season or 2 of colts. Is he in u20s squad or anything?

Niko Jones has just been named in the NZ Schools development camp squad from which the NZ Schools squad will be picked.

I'd say he'll be involved in the Jock Hobbs U19 tournament next year.

сайтовs go 4/5 & Harbour now dead last in the Premiership:

It's double-up week for сайтовs, next up Aucks on Sunday. Probably MOTR now that 'naki (v Tasman) look to have fallen off a cliff.

Geez WOB, Harbour started well, and still look a bloody good team, it pretty hard to hold spots in Premiership isn't it? That was another cracking match I thought, Cantans going ok, and with their ex-Logan boy Sef Fagaase starting to settle in.;)
That Cantab/Aucks game will be well worth watching I think.

Shield retained & Waikato's now top of the Championship table, both of which you'd have got good odds on as recently as a week & a bit ago:

v

EDIT: next challengers are Southland on 29/09

Waikato looked ok too WOB. What is it about the 'Log' that still gets teams to play so much better?

^^^^^^^^ hmm, not 100% sure but suspect that 115 years of it being the pinnacle of NZ provincial rugby may have something to do with it (e.g. last time the сайтовs won it several of them were just about in tears whereas a few weeks later winning the Premiership was a bit ho-hum what with them having done it multiple times already).

Taniwha revival continues:

Into the Championship top four & unless BoP knock Harbour over (or Otago's bus gets lost on the way to Invercagill) they'll stay there.

Yep, I really wondered if shield was losing some of mana, but certainly not with the players is it? I love it!

Mako back into third place where they'll likely stay * unless the сайтовs destroy the Aucks tomorrow:

* EDIT: Aucks & Mako both on 19 points but Aucks have a PD of +64 c.f. Mako +51.сайтовs are on 20 points, Wellington 17 & Counties Manukau 13: Taranaki (10) or North Harbour (9) now look most likely to be playing Championship footy next year.
