GPS 1s 14 - CHS 1s 14, wasn't there but there's the scoreline... Keen on any match reports.....
CHS II V COUNTRY
CHS large forward pack dominated possession throughout and on the back of 4-5 classy players had too many answers for COUNTRY who hurt themselves by turning over possession when attacking that led to points against them through good counter from CHS. Overall assessment CHS too big, too fast against a brave COUNTRY outfit. Outstanding players CHS 8,10,14.
CAS II v CCC
CCC started strongly and were pressing CAS when a dropped pass led to a 7 pointer and deflated CCC while CAS lifted. Further tries came and CAS had built a comfortable lead going to oranges. Second half and CCC continued to attack and were rewarded with a try around the midpoint. CAS appeared to have clocked off but came with a late try to seal a solid win. Outstanding players CAS - 2,5,15 CCC -14
GPS II v ISA II
It's the simple things done well that can win or lose a game. Against quality opposition you have to minimise the mistakes like failing to find touch from your penalty kicks and ISA didn't on 2 occassions which ultimately allowed GPS to reverse the pressure and score points. The ISA forwards took on their much vaunted opposition and matched them at set piece and bettered them at the breakdown. Around the 45 minute mark GPS put on a couple of quick back to back scores to open up an unassialable lead and then posted further scores off the back of ISA errors when pushing passes in an effort to close the gap. The final score while comprehensive wasn't indicative off the difference between the two teams and some players reputations were tarnished against a willing opposition. Outstanding players GPS - 4,12,6 ISA - 7,5,8
CAS I v ISA I
Like their II's ISA started well and there were early exchanges of tries as the game opened up. The 10's were showing their class and probing the opposition backlines with well directed passes and inside plays. ISA paid a hefty price at the scrum with CAS taking three strikes against the feed and the extra possession made ISA defend for long periods and left holes around the rucks that CAS exploited to score a couple of easy tries and the score got out to 31 - 10. Late in the second half Isa started to get equal share of possession and the game toook a different shape. ISA played some enterprising rugby to post 2 quick tries and we had a game on our hands. 3 more minutes may have led to a draw but it wasn't to be and CAS secured a close win. Outstanding players ISA - 6, 10, 12 CAS - 1, 6, 10
CHS I v GPS I
Best till last. A clash of 2 styles with one side playing an intense structured game against an open free running side looking to break out at any turnover. This is not to denegrade either side as they both had a crack and provided a tense, flowing, open game. The individual battles generally finished like the scoreline of 14 all and these two teams should provide the bulk of the state sides. Outstanding players GPS - 1,5,8,9,12,15 CHS - 1,6,8,9,12,13,14,15
Well done to all involved.
