Being 120kgs this is not healthy for any player in todays game. Lolohea's hieght in the scrum will diminish his ability to scrum considering you want a LHP that can get under his opposite number. We will see on Friday when they both come up against each other. All Lolohea has is his running game. He make no impact on the ruck or in defense therefore after he take 2 runs he will be too tired to take another and once Lolohea gets hit (like he will if his in NSW he wont want to get back up and take another) so he will go missing. I know this as i have played with both these people. Gillespie is far more deserving of this spot.

In my experience in the fringes of the waratahs, the many world class LHP are all in the range of 120Kgs and Lolohea is a fit young and healthy prop. His presence on the field is recognized by all watching and his ruck and defence work is exceptional and is parallel to a top grade Super 14 prop such as ma'afu. He plays like Sam Thaiday. He has the flare and the ability to run the ball for the full 70 minutes and hit gaps as he is very allusive for a LHP. Although he is a tall boy his ability in the scrum definitely outweighs gillespie. In the game of CAS vs. CHS, lolohea played exceptional and his running game was the most dangerous and this will get him into the NSW 1s over Gillespie. Gillespie's performance was woeful against CAS and does not deserve this LHP position.

You can't judge someones performance off one game, and if you were watching the game his defence and breakdown work was lacking when he finally arrived to the only three he hit all game. Everyone know ytou can't run the ball if you don't win it first. Whereas Gillespie does the hard work in the breakdown and running therefore he has a complete and all round game.

I saw Lolohea play for CHS against CAS and ISA and his play on those days does not reconcile with what you are saying about him. In particular his 70 minute effort against ISA and still trying to move people in the ruck at the final bell in a losing cause was a great effort for a guy as big as he is.

And although he is tall his side of the scrum was solid when I remembered specifically to watch it.

Gillespie's work at the breakdown and running around the park in the 3 Kings and GPS games I have seen him play in this year were not as good as you indicate. He is certainly not in the class of his Kings and GPS team mate, Millar the THP, in those departments. He is a fine scrummager though.

Were you at Weigall to see Kings play Grammar? If so, did you not hear the Kings coach yell out to Gillespie to hit more rucks?

I did.

I did hear that but the reason for that was that there was no need with the dismal display of Grammar at the breakdown and Tom Connor, Boyd Killingworth, Jack leslie and Benn melrose all there to secure ball why over commit to the ruck why not stand out and get over the advantage line. Also it is because the coach wants them to hit every second ruck and that is impossible for every prop in the game

Front row of the scrum is a specialist area and definitely not my area of expertise.

However it must be very difficult for young props and hookers to build a season in 10-12 weeks as is the case with the private school system. Next year the heavier props will have a pre-season and then 20-22 weeks in the colts or grade competition in which to build fitness, strength and technique. Some of the less fancied props may really come into their own next year with a far longer season and start to re-establish themselves after a season or two out of school.

You're absolutely right.

And not to your point - and it depends on the boy - but sometimes I think it's a good idea for young props to have a gap year after school and then go into Colts when they get back.

Did you notice little Moses played hooker for CHS last Sunday after their previous hooker got demoted to the Twos for poor throwing?

He had a shocker throwing to the lineout also but his hooking spot may be safe as the guy who got demoted hadn't improved any in his Twos game.

Pleasssse! On the same day that Kevin Rudd got it right on not going to a ballot we have some nong trying to tell David Lolohea how to pack into a scrum correctly!

When I played prop I was told to get under the LHP and disrupt the opposition ball because I was THP. The LHP's role is to make sure his hooker gets a good look at the ball and that means packing higher than the other side. Please explain?

Heard CHS have made changes to their team tomorrow. Muller is in, Schuster is in. Not sure of who they are replacing. Have heard nothing about Cummins; it may be the worlds best secret!

Sorry to hear about Matt White. I thought he played a good game against CAS. Much is made about Big Willie's big runs but I have been impressed with his work at the breakdown. If Big Dave Lolohea can shift bodies so can this bloke! C'MON CHS! Playing for pride tomorrow boys!

Heard about big willie on Sunday, a brief selectors meeting after the ISA game had them deciding 5. Matt White had to go and that the team needed some grunt in the rucks. Was going to keep it a surprise for you all when he runs out tomorrow. Lets hope he helps CHSruck and maul play against GPS, and help the forwards bounce back from that woeful performance they displayed on sunday

GPS should be looking to put at least 50 on CHS. I don't see Skelton being the conduit to a resurection. Two tries from 5 metres out were handy, I concede but he was knocked over twice by backs in general play with copy book tackles. Pete Shuster will help, tough cooky.

It was a huge surprise to me that the hills sports high boys did not gel the team together as there wasn't that much between them and Auggies in the Waratah Shield final last year.

I really rate David Lolohea. His resume might not be outstanding but his form at the NSW trials has been very good. He is a big guy, but does a lot of work around the field and is a decent scrummager. Jed Gillespie might have been the better prop last year and the year before but Lolohea has come into his own at these trials and IMO has done more than enough to warrant a spot in the NSW 1sts front row.

Rubbish. The reason he was told to hit the breakdown was because Connor, Leslie, etc were not securing the ball. Having said that, he is clearly above all of the CAS props and should be in contention for NSW.

Good work on the selections skullring. I saw Cummins walking around as waterboy last Sunday at Rat Park and he looked OK; so wouldn't be too surprised to see him play.

I saw Steve at Pirates Colts training last night doing ball work while the rest of the squad did some fitness reps. The word I was told was he's "nearly" ready to play.

Tell you what: Big Willie had a terrific game at Rat Park last Sunday and he earned promotion into the Ones. Sure, he can be ponderous at times but you couldn't fault his efforts against the Isa Twos; no siree.

Mafi played well for the CHS Twos on Sunday and has a strong fend.

Wish I had written that. Maybe I have, but took 3 times as many words.

I'm almost inclined not to go today. The parking at Knox will be horrendous. I wonder why they're not playing at Curragul? The parking there would have been better. Might catch the train to Warrawee station. Hmm.... decisions!

That explains why he was walking so much I suppose. Millar wasn't walking.

Guy Millar wasn't walking because he is a freak. Any prop that gets judged against millar in fitness will look unfit because Millar is so fit. Millar would be as fit as a backrower hence why he was playing backrow in the under 16's for king's
