As an Old Boy I'm very disappointed to hear this. Please contact the Headmaster Dr Mulford and I'm sure he will take the appropriate action, if indeed it has not already been taken.
As an old boy, you shouldn't be too disappointed. As I said in a previous post, the current school boys who ran on to the field after the winning try did so in a spontaneous celebration of the victory following two very close, very tense and very hard-fought matches - I can't speak for the old boys at the northern end, and won't try to - I'm not an old boy myself, so haven't been in that situation.
Describing the behaviour of all of the Newington supporters as despicable is petty and nasty and wrong. The very large crowd of parents & boys on the western bank adhered to the code of conduct throughout the afternoon, as they do every week, and to suggest otherwise is simply malicious. There was no abuse of the opposition from this crowd, but there was a great deal of very vocal support for the victorious 1sts and 2nds teams.
The headmaster expressed his displeasure about the boys running on to the field at the end of the match at the after-match function and no doubt there will be ramifications - I only hope the response isn't too over the top.
And finally, when the dust settles, and the frothing at the mouth eases off, there should be some acknowledgement of the great rugby that was played on Saturday afternoon in the 2nds and 1sts - both games had great displays of power in the forwards and finesse in the backs, and if the Yr 12 boys from school go on to play Colts and then Grade with the same level of skill and tenacity as they displayed on the weekend, then NSW & Australian rugby will be the better for it.
