Remember this kid is only turning 15 this year. He played in the 15 golds for southern as a 14year old. I would think they would not want to hang any more weight on him so they can keep his speed up. 95kegs at 15 is probably enough dont you think?

The Newington Rugby model seems to be based around big physically intimidating centres, and I refer to their use of Roods, Vaingolo, Latinopoulu, Milne, and Moeroa in recent years.

Have we lost the art of, or are we in the process of losing the art of, developing silky smooth runners and ball distributing centres?

What has become of the big physically intimidating Newington centre graduates?
Not too many of these have gone on in rugby. Many of them lose their previous physical advantage several years after school.
Roods - lots of injuries.
Apo - going OK at Hobbits 1st Grade.
Vaingolo - #8 at Beasts after a stint in West-Tigerland, and off to France soon. (still physically imposing)
M&M - mungoball.

With the ARU appearing to pin all their junior development hopes on the AAGPS and Brissie GPS system, it is not a good sign that the schools appear to be focused on playing winning rugby at whatever cost, not necessarily developing players for long term careers as professional rugby athletes.
Couldn't agree more Big Arse.
All that is coming out of these elite program are athletes, not footballers.
The names you quote are all limited to being crash ballers.
Which is great when they have 15kg's on their opponents.
When will the penny drop that it is easier to turn a footballer into an athlete, than it is to turn an athlete into a footballer?
When a program systematically churns out kids that can't draw & pass, and do not have the vision to identify a 3 on 2,let alone the skill set to take advantage of it.
The program and the talent identification process is worthless.

I recall someone told me that he has a contract with the roosters

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He was in the U15 ARL merit team last year. He has played with Adrian Lam's son in rugby and I would therefore be very surprised if he doesn't have a roosters contract.
He is losing his dominance in union based on what I saw in JGC 15s. He has not grown taller for some years and both his parents are small.

His dad said he is not playing league this year (which surprised me) think he plays junior club rugby for Randwick.

He is about 5'10" i'd say.

Totally disagree with this statement.

There is a pool of talented kids and soccer afl league union are all chasing them.

Please, give me a list of star soccer players that were successfully recruited into rep Rugby players after 16.
An AFL recruit would do.

Not talking about 16 talking about who ever gets the young athletes, usually transition around 10 to 14 from soccer to union.

The point was more about who these elite programs choose.
The NGS starts in 16's.
Look at the list of the big boppa's that had in their program for 3 years, and they couldn't teach them to catch and pass.
So either their coaching,or their recruitment is crap.
The two pro players you quote, one is 40 years old,the other is from the UK.so to prove your point, you have trawled the world for over twenty years to get your examples.
Neither were turned into Rugby players by the NGS program.

Joe Roff, Chris Latham from Soccer to Rugby.

Very very few and far between.

Can't think of any Saffers.

One of the NZ Sevens players is a AFL convert.
Sam Dickson (Allblacks.com)
A man who has come up through the ranks of the great Canterbury rugby machine and has really come of age as a sevens player in the 2012/13 season. He has been a key ball winner for the team at kick off, showing great strength and agility – a versatile athlete who has played Aussie Rules as well.

The numbers are not all that large even after consulting the oracle that is wikipedia.

From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_players_who_have_converted_from_one_football_code_to_another

Soccer to rugby union[edit]

Aussie Rules to Rugby
Nick Evans, New Zealand
Rambo Tavana, Samoa
Mikaele Pesamino, Samoa
Alec Boswell Timms, Australia/Scotland
Reg Morrisonn, Australia/Scotland
Israel Folau, Australia

As I said that was not my point so find an argument somewhere else.

So far you have Tyrone;

i) doing weights
ii) short
iii) contracted to the Roosters
iv) a Newington big bopper that will not amount to squat after school
v) in the NGS under 18 squad (at 14) and
vi) less dominant

So what is it with you guys

1) you dont like Tyrone
2) you dont like Newington
3) you dont like me
4) all of the above

I'm going with 3 as a possibility based on what I've seen so far.
Many grasshoppers come on here talking up their buddies/idols/pen pals/classmates/girlfriend's brothers. Never their brothers.
Those grasshoppers find that as time goes by there is a tide in the affairs of rugby which, if taken at their flood appear to lead on to fortune but, omitted, they are just as likely to lead on to fotune.
At this time, as the first game with athletes approaches we are afloat on a full sea of bold predictions with a current serving us but taking us who knows where.

Are yes I can hear the years of experience on forums and at bars across the nation coming forth and enlightening those as yet unaccepted who dare to mention something that has not been uttered by the accepted.

I will now sit by the fire and listen to the wise impart wisdom so I too in the distant future may become a little more wise and knowledgeable.

Thank you kind sir!
