NSW AAGPS 2025 (banter and commentary)

Ace Ventura

The Joeys team are ruing the one that got away when they played View in Round 5, won by View 34-26 with the luck of the bounce and two intercept tries. No complaints though as Joeys have benefitted from such close ones over the years.
But had just that one game gone the other way, then Joeys and View would be on equal points and playing a Grand Final for the premiership this Saturday.

Means absolutely squat. Didn’t Oakhill beat View in the very early season skirmish game then View spanked them in the return game.

Newington were being spoken of as world beaters after 2 rounds this year.
New were not helped by a number of injuries to key players from rounds 4-7 (not to mention highly, highly contentious loss at Bellevue Hill). Still think their best team remaining on the field would have won the comp (only team to beat View after all) but injuries are part and parcel of the game so well done to View.

I think what would be great is a champions league style fixture at end of GPS and CAS season. Winners of GPS play winners of CAS in 1st, 2nds and 16As. Play it at Leichhardt Oval. Get it on Stan. Would get a great crowd and would be compelling viewing.

Yeah, either that or the matches that they lost by 2 and 5 points. The cope here is incredibly strong. Luck of the bounce my arse :D

View then came back and knocked them over as well.

GPS moving to 2 rounds has been great for the overall play.

I wouldn't say "luck", if I recall correctly both of those tries were scored by Folkes who consistently scores from those scrappy moments, did similar things against Kings and other teams this season.

If luck is capitalising on opponents' unforced errors then View are primed to do more of that this week, such as Demspey's try from last week against Shore.

Like i mentioned, that was a weakened New team. When New were at full strength, New won. And as i stated were the only team to do so.
They did do View in Round 1 at home. That was a tough day for View at Stanmore and probably New's game of the season along with the match at Hunters Hill. I think from Round 1 View then kicked into gear more and more through their season while New probably went a little bit the other way with the exception of their first game against Joeys and their last game against Kings.

Exactly. Those intercepts and pressuring the attack are a huge part of the View game, as good sides do.

When you lose 5 or 6 of some of your best players all around the same time through injury it tends to have an effect.

Name me them please
Both starting props were out, makasini, one of the locks, captain and no 8 dylan simmons were all major injuries. like i said, fair play to view, they are deserving champions and were consistent across the season with only one loss against the full-strength new side. It would have been interesting to see how things may have panned out without such injury disruptions but c'est la vie.

In the sixties when I played in High Firsts, in our last trial match we beat Cranbrook 74 nil (17tries when tries were worth 3 points then) so the papers had us as favourites for the GPS comp. In the first match we played Grammar and had two broken collarbones in the backs. In those days there were no replacements for injuries ( and no water on the field except at half time!). Grammar won that match and went on to win the comp ( they never won it again!). We did not win another game that year. We had no player depth. I know how Shore must be feeling today.Whenever there’s a reunion it is always said “….if only…”.

In 1978 there was a triple tie with Joeys, Kings and Grammar sharing the premiership. Tha 1963 SHS team is ranked as the best ever. I have spoken to those who played them. Brilliantly coached team

I have to agree.

New would have won the comp with the starting 15 from the beginning of the season. But that’s footy heh….with injuries…makes the season interesting.

Well done View on First 8 and First 15 wins.

Bring on next year and go Kings
