Although they are a fellow GPS school,
Who actually cares about TAS.
My father played in the TAS 1st XV in 1955. He played four games against Sydney teams.
Back then they traveled on the mail train to Sydney. Usually 12-13 hours.
They would leave at 7pm and traveled through the night.
Dinner was prepared sandwiches and thermos of hot chocolate.
It was very cold and sleep was hard but they managed. Dad said they would layer up in all the clothes they had.
They would arrive at central at 8am, travel by bus to the venue and play that afternoon.
Then the bus would take them to Central or Strathfield for the evening train back home.
Again they slept on the train. Normally the hosting school put on a spread for them before they left.
Dad would stuff his pockets full of food, a skill he passed onto me it seems.
Sunday was spent asleep in the dormitory.
I care.
