Joeys 9ths XV got up 17-12. They are looking like a deadly side this year, even winning against a stacked Riverview team, players that played games up to the 2nds.
Joeys 9ths are called the nicotine ninths. They are a Year 12 team. At Joeys it goes even numbered teams are year 11 (so Joeys 4ths were all year 11) and odd numbered teams are year 12. The Joeys 13ths are made up of who is left. Sometimes a Joeys 7ths can match Joeys 4ths depending on the talent in the cohort.

Shore 7 was amazing as-well as the Shore 15 who also played a great kicking and skillful game once again controlling it from the back and keeping Shore in the game with individual talent. Great clash between Shore and Scots and could have gone either way. Shore suffered many injuries this game I believe with their skipper no. 8 breaking his leg which was devastating and 13 with a knee and multiple head knocks.
Shore captain and number 8 Lachie thorpe has indeed broken his leg and will miss the remainder of the season, 13 Thomas Klem who was a key player in the shore 1sts last year has a suspected knee injury and awaiting scans I believe. Not a good start before the gps comp game, feel for the two blokes.

I was at the newington v kings game, I struggled to understand some of the refs decisions. The 3 try’s to kings seem to be either a forward pass, taken into touch or a knock on in the ruck… it seems that the kings school have a home advantage with the refs. This is a common theme amongst the gps rugby community.

Agreed. It seemed like that try where the Kings forward picked the ball out of the ruck was very weird. Billy Dickens had a word with the ref, not sure what was said in the exchange.

Hello NSWFootyHead
How would you rate the Newington performance, particularly, its Backline.

Shore 15 was outstanding yesterday, an absolute rugby prodigy. He really turned it on for the indigenous round with some individual brilliance (I believe he is from indigenous heritage, correct me if I'm wrong). I clear option for GPS selection in my opinion.

Great Game yesterday down at Hunters Hill. The view boys were electric and definitely the better team. Just a lack of execution especially in the lineouts cost view the game. Max Jorgensen was special as always and single handily kept Joeys in the game.
Overall this Riverview team has began to hit form past 3 weeks, in good timing for the GPS seasoning beginning next round.

Anyone have opinions on this Riverview teams chances this year?

This was about a player falling ontop him on purpose, if you watch the clutch footage you’ll see number 7 after the penalty previous to the play where they score. Then when billy (number 9 for newo) speaks to the ref he makes certain hand gestures relating to a knee in the head.

And on bias reffing I would totally have to disagree with this, from a non bias perspective I believe it was 50/50 and kings were just a better side on the day. New will need to regroup and be ready for a round one as it is “their title to lose”

I think the back line missed siteni. I think daniel Wright and Oliver towsend must be included in the squad for the team to perform at its peak. I think billy dickens and Stanley Martin both had very strong games and looked to be in control. My back line would be 9 dickens, 10 Townsend/wright, 11 Williams/Quinn, 12 Barton ,13 Maclean, 14 taukomo, 15 macgregor. Ps billy dickens is not the son of mark however I believe they are related.

Thank you for clarifying. I tried to look back at the footage but I received some sort of error.

Personally, i would switch Townsend to keep playing as number 12, have McGregor continue to play as number 10, will quin playing full back, and drew Williams playing 11. A lot of great choices for the Newington backline.

Last week Siteni seemed to have a licence to rove which I think suits him and the team. At full strength I'd run with 10. Townsend 11. Quinn 12.Wright 13. Mclean 14. Taukamo 15. McGregor. Billy is Mark's nephew.

Although he’s a a great player, the Joeys fullback has got to be the clear option for GPS 1’s. He was selected in the Australian U20 training squad when he was in year 11 alongside the knox 13 Archie Saunders.

Yep, those 2 players are set in stone for their respective associations. Great players. Pity The Knox 13 only lasted 30 seconds against joeys before getting a bad facial cut that required surgery.

Many thanks NSWfootyHead, clearly they have talent and choice in the Backline. My hope is that this backline Will provide us New supporters with some great attacking Rugby, that shall be a source of enjoyment. I also hope, they will spearhead New to some great wins.

Glad you clarified the refereeing was fairly even, it’s always easy to critic the ref watching it back. They dont work at the school and rugby nsw refs (and human) Kings were a better team capitalising on their opportunities but New had moments where they showed they will be a threat.
Watching back it could be said there was a missed knockon in the ruck that lead to the try but the ball was clear of the ruck. But sometimes but watching back one must also consider the missed penalties and in this case red card. New three lifted and then drove the player onto his head within the ruck. There is also a video getting around of the New 9 punching a Kings player just off the Cluch footage - both would result in red cards and suspension - ask old mate from Scots!

Yes, this Riverview team is looking rather sharp considering the team being predominantly year 12 last year - A blistering backline with Perkins and Grover on the wing and the center paring of Julien and Threkeld with constant kicks from Dillion applying pressure on the outside backs of the opposition.

They just need to nail their lineouts which was a big factor for them as they blew at least 3 opportunities right on Joey's line yesterday.

The referees calls were also a bit controversial 3 different high tackles in the space of 15 mins, no sin-bin.
