Some excellent debate on GPS selections. With 6 relatively close teams in relation to talent (and close scores when playing each other so far) it will be very competitive.

One consideration is lineout combinations. If, as most agree, Ollie McCrea (Scots) is one second row, then he is a lifter and definitely not a lineout jumper. Therefore, it is unlikely the other second row spot and every backrow spots will all go to powerful runners and tacklers like DiStasio, Sekel, Darling, Dickinson, Villiamu etc. – with none being recognised primary lineout options. This is maybe why we will see someone like Darcy Fogarty as a second row selection and maybe one of the backrow spots decided by lineout capability in addition to the other core selection requirements.

I think regardless Distaso has to make GPS 1's.

In football our record for the season is sixteen matches played, nine won, six lost, and one drawn. 213 points were scored by our team as against 109 scored by our opponents.

We were in the final for the Football Premiership of the Great Public Schools. Our opponents were the Sydney Grammar School, whose team was the strongest the school had had for eight years ; the match deciding the Premiership was vigorously fought out by both sides, and narrowly won by the Sydney Grammar School.

The college footballers now enjoy the luxury of a "shower" after every match. Plunge and shower baths are fitted up in the college, and they are used not only by the cricketers and footballers, but also by the other students when needed.

Bloody luxury I say....

Do any of the schools have lower age limits for their 1sts teams across sports? TKS had a few year 8s in their 1sts cricket recently but even year 9 in any 1sts team in any sport is quite prodigious.

Johnny Taylor was a dual International, having played Test Cricket for Australia. He was in the NSW Sheffield Shield team whilst still at Newington.

Thank you Joker for that piece of History. Its makes us, here in the third decade of the 21st Century, appreciate something like a shower. I also read an article from Kings, from the 1880s, about the unavailability of travel for one of their players.He consequently missed the match. Another, interesting article from Kings, was a gun fight between a group of Bushrangers and family of Kings Boys in the 1860s, on their way to school for a new term.
For Teaching and Boarding Staff it gives new meaning to "Duty of Care. Also, the need to have Rifleshooting as a GPS Sport.

I haven't seen Ned Ritchens from Shores name been thrown in the mix yet but can definitely see him in the 1st team.

Reasoning:
I like having centres from the same school, and with Caillol and Threlkeld both having great starts to this year and playing great games at joeys, providing great spark and quality defence (Threlkeld kept M Jorgensen much quieter than usual in the first half, and Caillol with great contact and dominance) , I would pick them. However I also think Leahy, R (J) wouldn’t be a bad option, much the same as Bassingthwaite (E) at 12.

The 11 and 14 were hard to choose. In the end, Perkins has the experience playing GPS 1st XV last year so he earns the 14 jersey. The 11 jersey was split between Tonga and Taukam

In the halves, I found it very hard to find a combo. I picked Dufficy over Fowler due to games played, but who knows, if Fowler has another good game R1 against Shore things could change. At half back it’s very up for debate. I think Dickens (N), Lamming (I),and McClaren (S) are all viable options with little separating them.

The back 5 of the forwards is always hard to pick, especially with the number of quality players from each school. I think the back row is the best fit as the loose fowards. Campbell, whilst not being the biggest body in the field, is a quality line out option and has a high workrate. McCrea should make up for some size there

Steil (despite some average scrummaging in the 3 jersey) offers to much with balling running and defence to leave him out, hence why I’ve opted to take both Barrett and Steil rather than Barrett and Basten (k), or Jorgensen (N)

Fit and aggressive forward pack. I chose durbridge at 7 because I think he offers a lot over the ball which the other back rowers don’t.

Best team I’ve seen yet. Probably wouldn’t make a change. Therefore I won’t bother making a team. If we see this team line up for the GPS1 it wouldn’t surprise me if they went undefeated.
