Just received the Joeys 1st XV team list to take on Riverview this weekend at Leichhardt

1.Seb El Droubi
2. Atticus Heaven
3. Harry Bell (vvc)
4. Quinn Dickinson
5. Darcy Fogarty (vc)
6. Archie Campbell
7. Patrick Young
8. Harry Darling
9. Hwi Sharples
10. Joey Fowler (C)
11. Jack Duffy
12. Hunter Fogarty
13. Ronan Leahy
14. Ben Whyte
15. Pat Broe

Disappointing for joeys with both Jorgensens unfit to play. Jack Barrett also being ruled out due to an ongoing knee injury. Will be interesting to see who steps up considering both C and VC are unfit

I don't understand why have a selective sporting (likes sports schools) path and a selective academic path. It shouldn't just be students who are good at academics the school needs more people who are good at multiple things
In my opinion, there are a few schools that don't focus enough on academics... It's all up to personal preference. If you have a son who has not much interest in sport but is really into his academics then Grammar and SBHS are great schools. If your son's a rugby nut but doesn't care for academics, then there are a few other schools I would suggest.

The only reason schools having different focuses is an issue is because the AAGPS is hellbent on maintaining traditions, and refuses to rethink old systems that were successful 100 years ago... A lot has changed in that time. The downfall of TAS, Grammar and SBHS athletics-wise, some schools having a much larger intake of boys than others, the popularity of soccer and the introduction of AFL, the success of some CAS rugby programs, and the significant investing or lack thereof in boarding programs across these schools, the naughty "S" word that we don't speak of (which I personally think is beneficial to all parties involved) that some schools partake in, other schools partake in but they think they are sneaky about it, and few don't partake in at all, leaving them at a great disadvantage. These are all factors in a very broken schoolboy rugby system that we see currently see.

I like this lineup for an injury prone team!

I had news that Jack Scarf will most likely sub on too can you back this up for me?

Will be a tight contest, but I got the men in Cerise and Blue

Cheers,

Hey Schoolboyspecialist,

It is unfortunate that these injuries are restricting these boys the chance of putting on a show in front of once in a lifetime crowds. None of the less, I believe Pat Broe will rise to the occasion and put on a show and the leadership skills of Harry Bell being the vice vice captain will be a crucial factor if Joeys want to achieve success over their rivals from across the river.

Looks like we now have the Joeys year 12 lads here. I wonder what happened to the View boys? There has been very little "banter" between the schools this week. I am looking forward to what the lunatic Wolves have in store for their cheering. I am hearing rumours of banners, drums, smoke and special cheers just for Joeys. I am sure the cerise and blue army will bring their biggest voices .

Opinions on the Kings 16As team? Any underrated or standout players? I heard they have a strong forward pack and their backline is decent. Watching the 16As Kings v Newington game on the weekend, Kings boys defended really well against Newo most of the time, despite letting a few tries in and a couple line breaks, they held their own almost all game. Predictions on their upcoming game also against Scots whom they seem to have Barlett back from 2s. Also, will he be called up again or will he remain in the 16As for the rest of the season?

Gotta backup on what Joker is saying here,

this really is what makes Schoolboy Rugby so special ❤

The rivalry yet love between View and Joeys is what makes each matchup so intense yet sentimental.

May the games begin!

News out of training today:
Greg Thompson (Coach of Joeys 1st XV) has let go of Ben Whyte and is looking at bringing up Oliver Pestonji to fill in the #14 role. Pestonji has scored 7 tries in his last 4 matches for the college and is out to prove he can keep his spot in the triple bar. After talking to his coach (mr. Jeremy Ticehurst) I am feeling extremely excited to see how performs at Leichhardt oval on Saturday in front of the huge crowd.

Oliver Pestonji is one to look out for. Although only a slim build he looms large presenting a major threat to each opposing team. His deadly boot and incredible acceleration have seen him cross the line multiple times.
On a side note:
After work I went to SJC No.1 and OP has said "i will turn those jesuites into door mates".
Only time will tell.

Good on him ,

I know his father quite well and he would be a proud man,

Let’s hope he can rise to the occasion and cross the southern end of the 8th wonder!

cheers,

It has been a busy one in the office today that’s for sure! As I have been receiving countless Emails that young Prodigy Bill Smith is a likely contender to make an appearance this weekend. Details say that the agile ball-player will start for the 2s at flyhalf and sub on for the firsts as a utility. I’ve seen him play since the tender age of 7 and a half and I always knew he was different than the others, finally he’s getting his shot in the big apple! May I remind you this is only but a rumour.

cheers,

When I was schooling there, SBHS also had the selective policy, so there has been no change there SB

The advent of soccer and other winter sporting alternatives - coupled with a changing demographic of the student base - has simply eroded the rugby program to the point where we are now at
Was the criteria to enter the school at all different/easier to meet?

This weekends showdown between Newington and Shore will be a cracker.

I’m expecting a high scoring game with the BOM forecast for Saturday being a cool sunny day with a top of 20 degrees.

The boys from Stanmore will be on a high so far after one loss in the GPS Season
however it is a win or die match to remain in contention for the 2022 Premiership.

After last weekend, the boys from North Sydney have nothing to lose and will be playing for pride especially after their first win in six years.

May the Best team Win.

Go NEW!

Very Questionable the credibility of this as sources say otherwise. Sounds rather like bs.

As an insider at SBHS I can advise that the intake is solely based on State Government guidelines. There is no way to vary this whatsoever. They have to accept any boy that applies and is successful in the selective exams. Each boy and parent is told upon entry that they must play sport on Saturday however getting them to do this is almost impossible. Excuses are aplenty. There are only 180 boys entering in year 7 and usually there is only one or two boys that have previously played rugby. It is very tough to convince parents to allow their boys to play rugby.
On a brighter note the current crop of 1st XV players are mostly year 11 boys. The captain (no.10 and year 11 boy) did not play last week (injured) and has been in the 1st XV since Year 10. The other main player who is in the forwards is out for the rest of the year. They started with only around 22 players in total and one player is in his first year at rugby. These two boys mentioned would in my opinion make most 1st or 2nd XV teams.
The school has recruited some very capable coaches and expectations are that next year these boys will be much better physically and more competitive.
