Anybody appointed to a leadership role by the Sydney Archdiocese of the Anglican Church would have been chosen on religious grounds first with other qualifications being secondary. The archdiocese controls the councils of all of these schools (including Shore) and is heavily dominated by evangelical christians. Non GPS/CAS Anglican schools in Sydney go further and even require teachers to be a member of an evangelical church to get a job.

Tony George at Kings is the son of an Anglican minister.

Tim Bowden at Trinity is an ordained Anglican minister

John Collier at St Andrew's is a member of Chapter of St Andrew’s Cathedral and Lay Canon of the Cathedral

You'll note that in the link provided Dr Pettersen didn't use the words academic or sport once in his welcome to the school.

I remember the good old days of true Anglican educators. People like..

1. Rev Kurrle at Kings
2. Rod West at Trinity
3. Canon Newth at St Andrew's
4. Basil Travers at Shore

Those days the school direction was not dictated by the evangelical edicts of the Diocese of Sydney.

Bob Grant from Shore also very good. Was popular with the boys.

I believe he went to Grammar, so had an idea about GPS schools.

Tim Wright was a Rhodesian.

Although in those days the Sydney Anglican Archdiocese was much more mainstream Anglican than it is now. Ever since Jensen ran the place it's become far more puritanical.

Not just puritanical, but revisionist in its outlook. I know of one Anglican School, that forbid the reading of Harry Potter Novels, because they were deemed "Satanic" due the presence of unGodly creatures, such as goblins within the Novels. Others challenge the accepted science of evolution. Its reaching a stage, where if your not a fundamentalist Anglican in some of these Anglican schools, you can expect to be excluded from employment and enrolment of your child.

If we reject the extremes of fundamentalism within Islam, so we must reject the fundamentalism within Christianity. I really fear, that on current trends the Anglican Church in Sydney, is travelling down a path of potential intolerance. This is not at all healthy for our multicultural and multifaith society, that needs to accept diversity, inclusion and a compassionate understanding of that which is different.

Having served on Synod for many years, I have to agree with you B&W. When synod commenced talking about banning aboriginal smoking ceremonies on church land and evil things like Yoga...well....I had enough. It is becoming more intolerant, out of touch and anal with each year.

Going back to my original post. I was hoping one of the TKS people on the site might actually know the fellow.

Perhaps he coached the 16a's in an undefeated season. Wishful thinking

I've spoken to a contact at Kings. No interest in rugby. Was the Year 7 Boarding House master for a year or two but didn't last. His main interest is theology.

(We may well need that religious thread yet)

That’s a shame. Although slow to the party on improving S&C and preseason training, Tim Wright was an accomplished rugby player himself and was interested in the school’s performances.

As I understand it, anyone who is under 18 can be selected in the team, whether or not they are at school.

My assuption re the academies is that they will have the opportunity to participate in the Aust Schools Championships, but this isn't really clear so I'm happy to be corrected on this.

I'm a bit late to the party but that is the case in NSW. In QLD the GPS schools aren't letting their players trial for the Nationals but in NSW all players from all schools regardless of whether they're in an academy or not is being encouraged to play

As for the spelling, the English language has changed with American English now dominant, particularly, regarding computers in the information age, including spell check. Get with the times Spieber.

Septic English is NEVER accepted as the default spelling in Australia!

does anyone know how this Academies business works, and how the representative teams for the newly named "Australian Schoolboys and U18s" are selected, and when?
The whole rep scene for schoolboy rugby is a dog's breakfast, and has been for a long time now. In the old days (ahem), rep teams were picked on form AFTER the regular season had been completed. Now boys are basically selected on reputation based on the previous year's efforts or some other mysterious and non-transparent process. This often leads to anomalous and bizarre selections, leaving some players of merit weeping and gnashing their teeth.
Are GPS, CAS and ISA players selected in academies? I see that letter from Tim Cleary the President of the ASRU that I found confusing and gobbledygook - a very poor attempt from a person in authority whose communication skills are sadly lacking. He seemed more interested in skiting about his credentials than actually and clearly articulating the process.
All info gratefully received.

In the ISA, players are nominated by the schools to attend an ISA selection trial for either the U16s and opens. This trial date is very early in the season - 14th of May this year which means just two competition matches prior to the selections (and nominations are made before round 1).

Crap. The ONLY English version I use is Australian English. As should everyone else in this country of ours.

FYI my handle here on G&GR is a big clue to my cultural roots, and they aren't British. Also, a cursory glance over my posts would easily reveal my alma mater, it isn't Shore.

So tell us Lindommer, is it worse for a Joe Boy to be called a Riverview OB or a Shore OB?;):)

Why does a small quip about English vs American spelling require a diatribe about foreign policy in response? And why are we dragging Shore into this? Ease up I’d say.

B&W: pull your head in. And let's all get back to the rugby.

PS. Your spelling is appalling, to lecture me about language of any sort is laughable.
