That is just awful. A very nice guy who gave his time freely to others. I recall watching him beating Joeys on a wind swept, rain soaked afternoon on TAS Back Field. I had the pleasure of meeting him and recalling that famous day in 2013 when we celebrated New England Rugby in Armidale. (Teachers College!)

That's a lovely story, Joker. From the TAS OA site, he is making progress and is grateful for the support he has been receiving including the #gunsoutfortombsy campaign. However, the family has also asked for privacy to allow him (and them) to focus on recovery.

Out of interest Jim, do one of Shore or TAS wear some sort of alternate strip when they play each other?
Their usual playing uniforms are almost identical.

Stannies wear something pretty close to TAS. Shame that it’s not a home game for Shore tomorrow and it’ll just be the TAS fixtures at Northbridge. Pretty tough playing away games the whole season, it’d be nice for the TAS boys to have a bit of an atmosphere in their final match.

Thanks for that UTG. I didn't realise that it was just the TAS games. Still, it will be better than Kings where only the firsts played and TAS outnumbered the Kings supporters. But "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers" will do our best to create an atmosphere. And maybe win!
I was thinking the other day that it's actually a bit sad for the Sydney boys to miss the opportunity of playing in Armidale. Yes, I know the arguments. But as High and Grammar know, when you come to Armidale you are the main event. How many thirds teams get the opportunity to play where they are the main event, the standard banners for their school, in front of significant crowds with (and this is for joker) the food stalls and all the other paraphernalia of the main event.? And for the more junior boys too there is an excitement, a frisson, that cannot be found in the mundanities of standard Sydney Saturday sport. There they are part of the routine, in Armidale they are special.
Never mind. I will enjoy tomorrow and hope that both schools enjoy themselves.

I took a team to play against TAS some light years ago and experienced exactly what you say.
In addition, we were hosted in the dining room for a lunch before the game.
i warned my players to look out for excessive hospitality designed to slow us down.
Sure enough, two big meat pies per plate and lashings of mashed potatoes arrived and the boys scoffed it all down, it being a very chilly day and all.
We lost.
TAS food stalls are magnificent. Country style baking with fresh lamb, beef and the best sausages from Khans Butchery in North Armidale. Have enjoyed the hospitality on many occasions provided by the lovely parent community who welcome their Joeys cousins every two years with plenty of tucker for the lads to enjoy. In addition, there are a number of the Joeys farming community nearby who assist TAS with these days. I recall in 2011 three pig spits going all day. The peach relish made my the Johnson family of Guyra from their own preserves was none like have enjoyed since. Spectacular. More should go.

Excellent summary, one question about the basis of double Vs triple. I presume you must have calculated these on an exclusive basis otherwise to win a triple you have to win a double and Grammar aren’t shown as winning a double but are shown as winning a triple. From what year did 3rds start?

Good point. I did not include those "doubles" from years when there was three competitions but only two. Yes, many schools won doubles during that period but I decided to only highlight those occasions when schools won everything on offer in those seasons.

Double Premiership (won both 1st and 2nd XV competitions between 1962-2011 when no third XV competition was awarded)
NOTE. I am seeking results for the 2nd XV competition 1906-1910 which will of course change all the numbers again. A work in progress. I am told that Joeys won these years but not confirmed as yet. Records are scratchy and hence I am seeking the help of all school communities to update them.
Thirds ran initially from 1909 tom 1961. There was a trophy once I am told.
The comp was then abandoned for some reason (my archivists at Joeys are working on this) and the trophy lost.
Then in 2012 it was reinstated and was won by the Joeys "Green Machine"
BTW. Version 003 attached now with additional historical information people requested. I am being given plenty of support and the odd correction. Thanks to all.

There was an error in the 2nd XV premiership count as the GPS website has only King’s as premiers in 1997. According to Joeys Annual the 1997 2nd XV premiership was shared by King’s, Shore and Joeys. Joeys did lose to King’s 6-5 but they lost to Shore (whom they defeated). The team photo shows Joeys with the W S Corr trophy. Mr Mark Williams was co-coach and was able to confirm this.
The new count is 59 for Joeys including 2018 is now correct. Others will be adjusted
Joeys won the Premiership also between 1906-1909, 1915 and in 2000 (making 6, plus proper GPS count 52, plus 2018 = 59)
1910 is still a mystery
Updated (version 004) will be ready later today with new additions.
