I am looking for a volunteer to write a match report for the Riverview v Joeys game on Sat. Surely there is a committed two eyed GPS fan who can help out. Otherwise you will face the Ignominy of a Barker/CAS writer doing a report on this historic GPS game.

So please any takers?

Joker, your sauces look way better than mine!!

Putting aside this whole citing of Nelson Roberts and the mystery surrounding it

I do make an observation...as a keen observer of schools rugby and junior club rugby

I have noted an extension of what I label tribalism, is the villainisation of opponents

So what happens is little Johnny hits little jack in a high tackle ... and whoever is on jacks side of the tribe, screams blue murder

It is never an accident ... it always with malicious intent

And anything less than a public lynching of the offender, is a travesty

So going back to be singling out joeys 14 and his high tackle

My point was not to vilify the offender, but rather to point out that the joeys coaches, are past masters at screaming blue murder

This is not to say they are alone ...quite the contrary ... they are the norm

Anytime I am close enough to coaches to hear their verbiage... it is par for the course

And I personally think coaches and supporters need to reflect on their tribalism and villianisation and remember that behind every misdeameanor isn’t a serial killer

Now I am definitely getting off that soap box... as I resemble that earlier post/pic

Nothing wrong with being on the soapbox if what you are saying is correct.

I'll throw in the constant blaming of referees, when it's usually the players who make more errors. I was watching a 14E match on the weekend and the behaviour of sections of the Knox supporters (which unsurprisingly was mirrored by the behaviour of the Knox players) was extremely poor. Calling out to the ref (who did a good job I thought) constantly, while seemingly ignoring the fact that many of the players could barely catch, pass or tackle would have been comical if not for the fact that the players displayed similar disrespect.

Unfortunately our national coach sets a poor example in this area.

Glad I got that off my chest.

You can have the soapbox back now SDW.:)

Joker that is too funny

Mate back in the day .. you must of been bloody funny in the boarding house

While some say bring back the biff, I say bring back the banter

Anyway soap box safely stowed... back to the rugby

Ok 3rds comp ... you have the best attacking team (joeys) playing the best defensive (view)

Haven’t seen either team but I think joeys going to be too slick

So joeys to take out 3rds comp ... which I think they have had a stranglehold on for years

So forget that ... onto 2nds comp

The joeys 2nds team I reckon would flog shore, and would probably beat majority of this year CAS sides and all ISA sides ... even Auggies

So again joeys to take out 2nds without barely breaking a sweat

So what to make of 1sts... whether to make the trek to white oval?

No ... Scots will crush a depleted kings and no joy watching a champion team flog a former champion team, that while featuring sualli a future star, sadly are hobbled with team rehab full to the brim

So it’s the catholic mash up

What Riverview team is going to roll out of bed on Saturday morning?
The one that beat Barker and Waverley or the one that has struggled to utilise 2 of Aussie schools best outside backs?

Personally I think they will bring their A game, and they will make a game of it.

My tip is joeys however never underestimate a Jesuit...so it could go down to the wire

And the view boys could salvage some pride and allow Scots to continue their string of titles, to joeys dismay... it’s like their is a curse on the joeys 1st xv title aspirations

Not sure about Joeys 2s “flogging Shore”. Both times the Shore and Joeys 2s met Shore pushed them as well as anyone. The first time it was even for the first half and Joeys ended up winning by two tries. The second match it looked as though it was going down to the wire but a yellow card to Shore enabled Joeys to run away with it.

They’ve got some fantastically talented backs with the likes of Chan and Eveleigh but a few players does not make a team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vince Creagh is the starting 12 for Aust schools when teams are anounced for the October tests. He was imo the MotM against Scots last Saturday by miles.

Creagh did look good... then again people with better rugby brains than me ,?tell me the Scots centres are their weakness

Waverley planned to target that area... but LHW was sick as a dog that day

At least that’s what my sauce told me

And Waverley failed to do what joeys did

Kings only chance is to target that area ... Altgh Scots might bring Mason back ?

Up the guts , if only there were more shore supporters with your belief

Shore has worst defensive record in 1sts and 2nds, and worst attacking record

I don’t doubt the shore players courage, but something isnt working at Northbridge

And yes I get shore hasn’t entered the arms race ... but I saw an awesome shore team beat Scots a few years back. I think it was a 14As ... think Alix rice was in Scots team ... so thinking it is year 11 cohort

And they had an amazing centre ... and all disappeared... aliens must’ve taken them

So Rugless (12) and Aveyard (13) were 2 of only 4 regular starters for Scots to not make NSW 1 or 2 or CS, but i wouldn't call them a weakness. They have played really well in some mstches - especially against View a few weeks back - against Bell. Easy etc. Both made GPS Blue and being in year 11 will have learned alot to take into 2019. Aveyard was starting 13 for GPS Pres A in 2017. So can play. Skipped 16s last year and was 13 for 2nds in 2017. IIRC Rugless ripped thru Waves (in 13 jersey) a couple of times, setting up one 2nd half try for Mossman after 50m break.

Schoolboy coaches whose employment is 90% rugby coaching are highly motivated to "encourage" referees to make the "correct" decisions.

SD,

On the 3rds Comp, it is very much a “live rubber” out at Lane Cove on Saturday.
‘View are undefeated; Joeys with just the one loss (which was to Grammar in Round 1, if I recall correctly, and which would’ve been the Joeys 3’s first loss in an age I’d guess!)

If View win (or it’s draw), an undefeated P’ship and a non-existent Trophy are theirs. (Am still waiting for Father Jim Belshaw to have the silversmiths of Armidale strike something appropriate.)

If the JoeBoys win, they get a share of the 2018 3’s chocolates. (All the rest of the 3’s are playing for the gallop and pride in their school jersey.)

In the 2’s, Joeys veritable dusting of Scots last week, WAS for the 2’s Premiership, so that one is already banked irrespective the outcome on Saturday.

The 1’s, we already know all the equations and possibilities, but whichever way you want to slice it, at Lane Cove on Saturday, the JoeBoys will play for taking off with Premierships in all three of the top GPS grades, albeit some of which may be ‘shared’. Bloody good effort, that!

I’ll be the first to agree that all is not right at Shore but based off the two games that Shore and Joeys 2s played I see little evidence that Joeys 2s would “flog” Shore 1sts.

The non-existent Trophy are theirs.

There was a trophy once in fact. When it was last awarded Joeys had won it (in fact they had won the 3rds for 6 years in a row) and then it was cancelled. Joeys held onto the trophy which soon became lost over the passage of time. There was no issue when the 3rds comp returned as Joeys won it again and again but then but then TAS did. Oh bugger. Unsure if they will make another.

The points table and for and against suggest that Joeys and Riverview are clearly the best two teams in the 3rds competition.

Joeys haven't been particularly dominant in 3rds since the competition started in 2012

2012 - SJC
2013 - TAS
2014 - SGS/TAS/TSC
2015 - SJC
2016 - TAS
2017 - SJC

Although as they have more teams than anyone else and thus greater depth, you'd expect them to be stronger as we go down the grades.

Joeys were indeed the last winners of the 1st incarnation of the 3rds competition back in 1961, and yes they did win 6 in a row - although 3 of the 6 were joint premierships (including one 3 way tie).

One thing that I have noted from going back to the records is that up until WW2, no one school was particularly dominant.

Joeys had a great run in the mid 50s, but the real golden age is the 80s and 90s when they won 13 1sts premierships.

Their rugby programme is a great example for others, and I like the way in which they play the game, but the changing demographic at other schools means that it's almost impossible for others to replicate the depth of teams. And it's this depth of teams which is a significant part of the Joeys programme.

UTG's,

Do you know how your Shore 15as went v Riverview last week, should have been a good game?
