It's unfortunately true that 7 Newington teams had no games on Saturday. Not a great way to finish the season. Turned a 5 game GPS season into a 4 game GPS season.

What if don't understand is why after all this supposed working together between the associations to organize these additional "trials", that the GPS & CAS seasons don't align exactly - of course there are going to be teams with no-one to play if CAS finished a week earlier.. How many Joeys teams had a bye or internal game on Sat?

Tough for Shore competing in a competition with scholarships and paid full time coaches at other schools. Do hope they can continue to show the grit they've always had and get some reward next year.

P.S. Do you think this years Shore 1s could have been premiers had they played in the 2s comp?

Just get the other schools to stop the crap, and you have an even and fair comp again.

I suppose you think that all schools should start their holidays on the same day too?

Very few and less than usual. 41 Rugby teams competed

Joeys had

2 internals;
8ths V 10ths
12ths V 16Fs

and matches against the following schools
16G V Newington
15D V Reddam A
15G V St Pats
14G V Grammar

The only team not to get a game was the 15E's who played internal 7s.

Full credit to the Joeys sports master in getting 40 out of 41 teams a match to finish the season

Hated playing them but kudos to joeys for their rugby programme. Caters for players of all abilities.

If the GPS comp was a competition only for boys that started at there school on day 1 year 7 then Shore would win the GPS comp every year without a problem!

Yes and a lot of families cant afford to send their children to a GPS school from year 7. Especially from the country.

Near full footage of the Joeys Riverview clash

Great filming sidesteppa, thank you for all your work this season...

A couple of points from the game

1. Truly marvellous contest from both teams where Joeys were the deserved winners
2. First yellow card seemed harsh but 2nd one was definite
3. Not sure how Rorke didn't score that try...
4. Joeys were the fitter team by far

Pretty much agree KicknChase. Only observations would be:

  • Riverview was a bit unlucky not to win and played the better rugby for most of the game;
  • I have seen Dalton's tackle on the Hudl website & it seems he didn't get the ball down - amazing tackle. Rorke doesn't seem to dispute on the field but maybe that's why he is such a great player (no rubbish from him ever it seems?);
  • Joeys was also a bit unlucky not to be awarded a try in first half - the corner post was bent into towards the field which made it harder for the touchie (but hey who cares - he deemed him to be out & hard to tell);
  • The fitness coach literally almost killed the boys on both camps & they were very fit. They came home over the top of every side in the comp albeit too late v Scots & Kings who were better on the day.

re Shore ... what I don't understand if why they start off strong in 13s and 14s, and then slide?

This years 13As were definitely competitive ... unless I am mistaken they beat Scots, Kings, Riverview (often convincingly) and then were respectable against strong Joeys and Newington teams

unless I am mistaken this years Shore 16As weren't too bad a few years back, and now they have had some hidings

I am not hinting at the unmentionable .... but I have seen the facilities that Scots has ... full sized ice baths, hyperbaric chambers, etc

and so whether Shore just isn't interested (rightly or wrongly) at throwing the money at the ongoing progress?

I don't know ... but what I do know is Shore has the cattle ... and that isn't by itself enough

I suspect shore can compete in early years but as training methods and frequency ramp up in later years it's hard to keep up if your school takes a more balanced approach ie limited to 2x a week training. That was my experience years ago. Grammar chairman did his famous piece on this a few years ago .
Not necessarily a cattle issue but a training issue.

I think you've summed it up nicely.

I don't think you can describe a team that gives up 21 points in 6 minutes as "unlucky".....perhaps unfortunate but the C&B truly "never give up" regardless of the score and their higher level of fitness got them there.
I described Dalton tackle at the time as miraculous....

SDW, I can assure you the GPS opens training program would be as intensive as any school.

In fact I would think Shore would have a fitness advantage on most schools.
