Two changes for Shoalhaven trial
The HSBC Waratahs have made just two changes to the starting team for its second and final pre-season match this Thursday against the Western Force.
After an impressive performance at outside centre in Friday’s 41-13 victory over the Fiji Warriors, Lachie Turner returns to the wing in place of Afa Pakalani.
Ryan Cross moves into the starting XV to partner Tom Carter in the centres.
Pakalani will now start for the HSBC Junior Waratahs in the curtain raiser against Western Force ‘A’.
All frontline players in contention for a place in the 22-man squad for the Super Rugby season opener against the Melbourne Rebels will be given significant game time in either the main match or the curtain raiser.
A list of reserves who will receive game time across both matches is still being finalised.
“Individually it is important players have the opportunity to perform and so we want to ensure they are all going into next week with significant game time under their belt,” said Hickey. “There are still a number of players in the curtain raiser side who will be selected for round one and we are keen to see them have a good hit-out in that match.”
Benn Robinson (calf) and Rob Horne (elbow) have been left out of the match day squads at this time, however will continue to train with the team in the lead-up to the match.
Almost half the tickets of the 5000-capacity venue have already been snapped up with most of the remainder expected to go before Thursday. Fans planning on attending the match are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets through

Gates open at 4:00pm before the curtain raiser kicks off at 5:30pm. The Super Rugby trial between the HSBC Waratahs and Western Force will commence at 7:30pm.
