I don't think anyone really believed he'd do it, but Gatland doesn't seem to have turned Wales around at all. One way traffic in Paris.

Shame about the idiotic shoulder to the head. That's him out for the next two. Of course they have options, they always do. Either Dupont to 10 or Penaud back on the wing, Ramos to 10, Bielle-Biarrey to FB. Probably more likely.

Gatland getting roasted, rightly so, for his selections.

Ireland took the foot off, were sloppy. Scoreline flattered England. Same old problem: turn up for an hour, lose the plot.

Italy architects of their own downfall in the first half. Didn't protect the ball, relentless very poor kicking. Better second half when they trusted themselves to play. Finn Russell? No-look back-of-the-hand passes in his own 22? Coach killer. Grow up, son.

This round is probably the best of the 5, all three games are bangers.

Wooden spoon battle:
Italy v Wales
Italy at home! Is their first ever 6N game as favourites? This game probably decides Gatland's career. Hopefully the Azzuri can get up.

Le Crunch: England v France
France been a bit quiet (I know they just walloped Wales). Ntamack/Dupont is already the most capped France half pairing. Ntamack is ruled out and replaced by the (probably) more talented Jalibert but he doesn't really gel with Dupont that well. They also have Roumat in the 2nd row with Meafou which is a really weird pairing. I think Roumat is useless in his preferred position at #8 and benefits from playing behind the Toulouse pack, I think he's even worse at lock. England have some fantastic locks in Itoje, Chessum and Martin. Could be a good pressure point here. Home game for England. I think France should still take it but England could be on for an upset.

The Celtic matchup:
Scotland at home too. Real shame about no Sione. Ireland will be too strong but really hoping for an upset. Hopefully Russell has a better game than last and shows the Irish rookie 10s how it goes.

Watching ENG vs FRA U20s (20 -10 To Eng after 75) at The Rec (Bath) and the stadium looks full - not sure if the game is free entry.

Amazing crowd numbers, and great TV coverage on BBC iPlayer.

England wrap up the game with a breakaway try in 82nd minute.

Just watched Italy vs Wales - kudos to Italy; back to back wins in 6N in Rome, and a new low for Wales.

Wales kick / chase so repetitive and poor execution - Wales drop to 12th in the Rankings.

Just watched England/France a bit earlier. Enjoyable game, English showing a bit of steel, and impressed me when things got chaotic for a bit, they stood firm, it's when they tend to struggle I think. Well worth a watch, and think the English team will get a few new fans .

Pretty great match once it got going

France fucked that. Had so many chances in the first half, great fortitude England. Deserved it in the end.

French fans must be starting to question Galthié’s tenure, such a golden generation and a pretty empty trophy room to show for it.

Ben Earl is not a #7 for me - I know he plays there for his Club, but both Tom and Ben Curry are better # 7s/6s - England seem quite interchangeable there.

I thought Willis was very good at #8, which explains why Earl plays #7 for his Club.

Yes - 3 missed tries with dropped passes with the line beckoning?

Two results that probably have pretty big implications for the international coaching market - Borthwick is looking much safer after a win over France, but there can't be any coming back from that loss for Gatland. I'm pretty glad we've gotten out ahead of Wales in going to the market, surely just about any coach looking will pick us over them right now, but if we'd waited till after they had sorted there mess out we'd be at risk of missing out on one of the good non-Australian candidates.

^ Gats is surely gone after that.

Reckon RA should go all in on signing Cotter (which might also entice Schmidt to stay on in a Wayne Smith-like role).

Edit: probably the wrong thread for this so re-posted on the Wobs 2025 thread.
