Result: Win series 2-1. lose SA series 0-2
Verdict: Fozzie stays.
Fozzie's Excuse: "SA is a hard place to win"

Result: Lose series 1-2, lose 0-2 in SA.

What about losing 1-2 to Ireland and drawing 1-1 with SA?

NZRFU didn't sack Hart in 1998, NZR ain't gunna sack Fozzie & he ain't quitting.

You sound very sure of yourself there.

An All Black coach who loses 7 straight test matches and still keeps his job? I'd be 80% sure they would let him go. If not, Schmidt will already be shadow coach in all but title by then anyway.

Sacking Fozzie would be tantamount to admitting they were wrong to re-appoint him last year. Not going to happen.

Edit: an Assistant or two may get canned, however, and/ or some consultants brought in.

Not exactly apples with apples - ABs had an unreal 1996 and 1997 under Hart and the Razor equivalent in 1998 (Henry) had already left for Wales by the time the 1998 Tri Nations had finished.

The one thing which I really dislike about Foz is, at no point has he put his hand up and firmly said, look we all need to improve and that includes me.
Even recently, he was talking about how the team was disrupted by Covid.
I mean wtf dude. Covid isn't an NZ phenomenon. Everyone else was disrupted by Covid.

I think you are on to something. Every year we play some random warm-up, and then a few games against the Aussies, and that pretty much settles the season because we get off to some seemingly impressive wins.
This year we finally have a tougher start to the year, and finally, we get to not hide behind games against the Islands, USA, Australia.

Stephen Perofeta has re-signed with NZR, Loss Bleus & 'naki for 2023 & 24. With DMac back in the country I half expected him to try his luck in Japan for a year or two so big ups to the kid for sticking around.

Nah - he's in form and makes sense to stick around and see if he can earn a RWC spot.

If he fails he can spend the rest of his career playing touch in Japan for double salary.

^ plenty of guys in his situation would've signed for one year only & bailed immediately if they missed RWC selection so as to get in before the usual post-RWC exodus.
I likie the fact he sticking around for year AFTER WC too WOB, hope he keeps going good to as players that do this are what we want.

Bloody great news in my opinion, All Blacks XV (A team) is to be picked and tour Canada and Europe for at 3 games. Great for fringe players etc to put forward cases!

I thought that's what NZ Maori is for... must be nice having an oil company bankroll you.
Na mate, Maori is quite a seperate thing, and have to have maori Whakapapa (ancestry) to be eligible, which stops it been used as an official 'A' team. While I strongly support the Maori team, and really like the whole concept, I also really keen on 'A' team where everyone can play.

I think if you see the tour is put together with a sports promotion company, and playing the Barbarians, which is tantamount to saying that it will probably more than pay it's own way.

Fozzie said less rotation this year. Great. Play well, keep the jersey. Everyone knows where they stand. Players realise their responsibility as "senior" 1st choice AB's. No shifting sands. Right thru to RWC.

So do the ALB's and Goodhue's and Havili's get to waltz back in? It does seem to be the AB way. Can't lose your jersey through injury. Fuck em, I would stick with Tupaea and Rieko as long as it keeps working.

Guessing the aged locks will be rotated though.

Totally agreed on the midfield - they've shown enough promise to stick with them for a few tests.
